Yeah, I agree, most kids don't pitch. I can't say we ever had one. Basically that is what I meant by the overhand fast ball. We never let a kid actually try and pitch - as noted by not letting him throw any junk. I don't think anyone is worrying about the kid in this case. I believe they are worry about their records against the kid. I am not talking up with the coach in this case, because I don't know how the kid was used, but I suspect not the right way.

Charlton was one of the nasty boys for Cincy in the late 80's early 90's. He was probably the most resourceful pitcher of the bunch. Not the most talented (Randy Myers) nor did he have the best arm (Rob Dibble). He did know how to get people out because he studied their weaknesses.

I don't know about waiting until college, but I think no kid should throw a real curve ball until he reaches 16. Even high school kids should be on pitch counts of no more then 75 pitches. 60 if they throw really hard.

The goal of little league is to learn to play the game correctly and have fun. The goal of a little league coach is to teach them the game and try to not let his competitiveness get in the way of the kids having fun. I always tried to win, but not at the expense of my kids. I did know where the line was between winning and putting kids in the position to be hurt. I actually lost a championship game by replacing my infield in the fifth inning to make sure they all got to play. It didn't go over well with the parents. I told them that if we were going to win, we would win the same way we had won all year. (rules state you don't have to substitute in the playoffs, I didn't agree with the rule for the 6-9 bunch) We still only lost by one run.

I never once was trying to produce a pro baseball player, but I did have several that played college ball and I had a haand in that, a small one, but a hand never the less.

Were raising a nation of kids that have never known defeat or loss, and when the time comes will not know how to fight to win. We have a generation of people that think that because they play guitar hero, they can play an instrument. Silliness.

We are doomed.

I like Guitar Hero. Give me a real one, and it's, "Whaaat????"

Eric I am the same way...I love guitar hero (especially the Rocks the 80's game for it. Real guitar and I have no clue.
