A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste…….

Postby Mountainman » Tue Jul 01, 2025 10:44 am

…….. so I’ve heard. After reading this article a thought mysteriously came to me.

‘Why not have ‘flexible scheduling’ during the regular season?

The problem with what Pettiti is saying, here ...

Is that he wants to give second and third chances to teams from his conference that would have otherwise lost their way out of the playoff picture.

4 Big Ten
4 Sec
2 ACC
2 Big XII
+4 ND/Other

He is making a claim that this model is based on Historical Strength.

He is also ignoring the reality that Strength often times shifts. And with NIL + Collective Bargaining Rights Cap, all leagues would be on a Level Field with regards to talent acquisition.

Let's be honest.

He is literally just trying to stuff the ballot box in front of your face.

Agreed…….. Conference Commissioners should not be running College Football, they should be running their conferences. The pitfall of having the Commissioners managing College Football is that it creates a Conflict of Interest, as we’re currently are experiencing. To paraphrase what we call it here in the hills and hollers, ‘You don’t hire the Fox to guard the henhouse’

Instead, College Football should be managed by a higher level of management.

My suggestion to the BIG Commissioner about ‘flexible scheduling’ was provide a way to determine which of his conference’s teams are indeed ‘The Best’.

The problem he’s dealing with is his position on multiple ‘guaranteed’ spots in the CFP, he does not trust the CFP Selection Committee……. even though Ohio State, after having “the toughest row to hoe” (another saying in these here hills and hollers) won a National Title a couple of years ago as a 2 loss regular season team.

This wouldn’t be a thing if someone was in charge of the commissioners. If the commissioners were part of the same body under one boss. All tv and stuff negotiated by someone for the group and not the individual or individual conference. Someone in charge of making and enforcing the rules.

We’re on the same page on this, and that means, sadly, the Federal Government absorbing the NCAA and making it a Federal Agency that governs, not just football, all College Athletics, else the States will pass self serving laws and the conferences and the teams will make self serving rules and do whatever they want.

A level playing field…… so to speak.

Yeah, nothing the federal government gets involved with turns into a positive. They will probably abolish tackling and play full on flag football at some point in the future.

Yep….. just what we need, a Federal Agency to govern and oversee the Coin Toss.

Here it is, directly from Pettiti's own mouth:

However, when you listen closely to what he says
Yes; he most certainly is pandering for a handout.

Okay, so ignoring the title of the video in the link I'm providing, as you can see why I viewed it off of that alone ...

Here's a great response to Pettiti that reflects my sentiment in the previous post:

NO, NO, NO……… NOT NO, BUT HELL NO!!!!!!! It’s this very kind of thinking that has created this mess, (a.k.a. a cluster fornication) that COLLEGE Athletics is in now.

TaKe a moment, sit back and look what’s been done…… and ask yourself ‘How in the hell did we get here?’, and then ask yourself, ‘Am I going to be a part of fixing it or am I going to participate and promote continuing down this path?’

Are you paying attention???? Nick Saban who’s one of GOATS asking the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO INTERVENE. You’ve got the Coach’s from one of the best conferences in the country rebelling and screaming at their conference commissioner to ‘STOP THE STUPID’. You’ve got the players on the cusp of creating a Union, you’ve got the Courts awarding multiple millions of dollars settlements AGAINST YOU, while plaintive lawyers rake in HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS while merely presenting a SLAM DRUNK, WALK TROUGH THE PARK CASE.

And what are you doing??? You’re promoting GUARANTEED PARTICIPATION in the College Football Playoff…….

With everything else you so accurately caricatured ...

That last bit has all the feels of potential impending Anti-Trust clause looming, should the other conferences involve ever get their act together, and stop being bullied by the arbitrator of Emerald City.

I believe you’re absolutely right. ‘College Athletics’ cannot be governed at the Conference Level……. and this proposal by Petitti illustrates why that’s the case. He can make his own rules within the conference, but he cannot make the rules beyond that boundary.

So, here’s where they’re heading…… a place where you just ‘Sit down, Shut up, and Take It.

Looks to me like a Coup d’etat…… when maybe a revolution would be more appropriate.

Yormark…… has other ideas.

We’ll see how the proposal does, and if it survives the Sink/Float Test…… as for my two cents worth, I always look at committees and TV Networks with a jaundiced eye, but whatever is decided, I am hopeful of getting rid of ‘automatic qualifiers’ AND ‘byes’.
