Now, more than ever, quarterbacks are transferring if they get stacked at #3 on the depth chart. And who can blame them? They want to play.
....Nebraska is down to one scholarship quarterback after transfers.
....FSU's 4 star RS Freshman QB just announced he is transferring before taking a snap because he was listed as #3...behind two guys who each have 12 starts. That leaves FSU with two quarterbacks...but the young guy was looking at set quarterbacks for the next two years and a high ranked 2019 commit coming in as well. And he was recruited as a pro style QB for Jimbo's style offense and Taggart runs a dual threat QB offense.
....more and more this is happening..Speight from Michigan to starting at UCLA...Auburn's Stidham began playing at Baylor, Joe Burrow will start at LSU after transferring from Ohio State, Will Grier starting at WVU after leaving Florida...and on
No longer will we be seeing a 4 year QB back up at P5 schools...and the culture has been changing even at the high school level to encourage "positioning". In the southeast, it is quite common for high school quarterbacks to transfer to another high school to better their playing chances and/or college chances.

Re: QB transfers
I suspect the transfer percentages are going to increase, how much is anybody’s guess, although my crystal ball says significantly. The market forces are favorable as there is a high demand for players as well as an increasing supply of players willing/wanting to transfer.
And now that the NCAA has implemented new Transfer Rules, the ‘process’ of transferring is favorable for those wishing to transfer, as well as for those seeking transfers.

”We’re already in a time where the on-field aspect of College Football is almost a distraction. It’s an era filled with handwringing about player empowerment, NCAA deregulation, the transfer portal and realignment all while the sport generally moves toward a professional model.” ~ Dennis Dodd

Yes, kids aren’t going to wait their turn anymore. If they don’t win their battle they will move next door.

We'll sure see if that's true with Alabama. Hurts is clearly not their guy. He's going to be there for this season; maybe not next.
