Recruiting...how's your team doing?

Recruiting..how's your team doing?

FSU is getting some good guys on both sides of the ball this year. Heavy on O line, a little short on DE's from what's desired...but a top five class in most folk's book.

The QB (Coker) is a mystery...he was offered as a no star with no major offer..than after his FSU committment, Bama offered. I've watched his film and wonder why he wasn't rated.

WVU also got a QB who was NR at the time of his committment to WVU (now 3 star)...and the kid set records his senior year for Pearland in Texas in the big school category. Some kids are sliding around and not getting rated.

Boise has recruited as they normally do. Have picked up some kids from Texas. They have put some weight on their offensive line....one guy from Texas is 6'3" and 300 pounds...he will loose some weight, but they is a good size boy. They have a 6'4" DE with speed. Generally, no one is ranked and they are filling in holes for two years to come. Like most schools who have programs that are consistent over a few years, they are reloading and not rebuilding so it is hard to tell. As Mr. Billybud says, some of these guys are not rated but the coaches see something in the future for them. I think Boise is in pretty good shape. They picked up a QB from CA but he has a couple of years before any action.

The University of Washington got some good second tier commitments, but has not done as well recruiting in WA as other schools. I think Boise does well in WA.

Washington State is in deep spit. Not sure what they are going to do. They need to get some road map for the future, they are a rudderless ship.

BYU is in their normal shape. Older players, a lot of commitment from players, not much from the school. They really need to look at skills and just not South Pacific bulk.

None of these school recruit well per Rivals. Not sure that means much.

Ohio State's class is alright. I would like them to have another OT in the class and a big reciever. It is a defense heavy class, but Ohio State is losing a bunch of defensive guys and needs to keep the depth charts full. They continue their trend to recruit defensive backs and smaller high school linebackers to fill the defensive backfield. Something I would rather they not do. They have one true linebacker in this class (6-0 235) which will help against the Wisconsin's of the world, but they continue to recruit smaller fast guys - I like big speed, but the smaller fast guys tend to be pushed around by a good power runningback that attacks up the middle. Anyway, it looks like a decent class, we will see how they finish. Ohio State needs to replace that big receiver they lose with Dane Sanzenbacher and a left tackle depth that has been lacking the last four or five years.

I don't put a ton of weight on individual star rankings or team rankings. Individual rankings have more to do with who offers than any objective scouting system. So many things factor into whether or not a great high school player becomes a great college player. The biggest thing, I believe comes after the kid signs. His capacity to be taught, his will to develop is skills, and probably most important - his coaches ability to put together a plan to give a player the best chance to succeed at his craft. The most willing player won't develop properly without have a coaching staff that can put together the best plan for his development.

Akron is looking to recruit guys that will fit a pro-style offense and a 4-3 defense, since the schemes have changed since the hiring of Rob Ianello and canning of JD Brookhart. In 2010, guys being uncomfortable showed but it was also clear that the team improved as the season went on. Even though they were 1-11 the win came in the final game and the last two losses were by 5 points to the eventual conference champ and on the road in double overtime.

Ianello has said he like to be a little heavier on linemen and linebackers this year and recruit more in the way of skill positions and specialists a year from now.

As far as how many stars people have, I don't follow that nonsense. Jason Taylor had no stars before coming to Akron and Charlie Frye had one. Frye ended up MVP of the Senior Bowl and Taylor was defensive MVP of the Senior Bowl and has also been NFL Defensive MVP.

Ohio State lost a couple of Olineman they wanted for this class. They only ended up with 3 for the class. Considering 4 are graduating this year, it leaves Ohio State thin on the Oline. On the other side of the ball Ohio State did well. They addressed all their needs on the DLine and at LB. Not a great class because of the lack of numbers on the Oline, but decent.

Appears from the pundits that FSU was the big winner. Mr. Billybud was out beating the bushes and he brought them in. Good going Billybud.

FSU did fill their needs.....a good class.

I didn't have to beat the bushes...Jimbo wants to build an "SEC like" team so we just went SEC (ATM cards, cars, unmarked bills).

Seriously, though, very good class by the noles. Now the hard part for all the coaches - getting the players to get on board with the college life without getting too on board with college life.

Signing day would have been a lot more fun if after every positive report on a team's recruits didn't end with "then again, look at how badly Texas did last year."

Texas has the guys....do not fret. It will be between the Sooners and the Longhorns. Just get better QB play and Texas will be a challenger for the NC.

I just found out from a alumnus co-worker that Ga landed a VERY solid recruiting class, such as a 6'4" 340 DT....

I've not kept up with it since I disconnected after the bowl loss to a C-USA team. Had to "recover".

Scout.com rankings.....good job by FSU

1 Florida State 28 ACC 4596
2 Auburn 24 SEC 4484
3 Ohio State 24 Big Ten 4403
4 Texas 22 Big 12 4355
5 Georgia 26 SEC 4222
6 USC 29 Pac-12 4208
7 Alabama 22 SEC 4026
8 Notre Dame 23 Indep 3906
9 Oregon 24 Pac-12 3701
10 LSU 22 SEC 3634
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Louisville scored big time with recruits; maybe our best class ever (24-29th depending on what service you are looking at) :D . Good QB, good skill players at several spots. FSU, FL and GA tried to use our recruiting list but most stayed firm with UL :P .

Already have 38 offers out for 2012 and looks like they are stocking up on beef this time around.

Charlie Strong is a top recruiter; and, a few more good classes will get us back. Top recruiting aide, Clint Hurtt, has decided to turn down SEC offers and stay at Louisville  .

UL staff issued 20 more offers (not all commits yet) not wasting any time to stock up on local talent in the Louisville, KY, IN & TN areas  . Check them all out at http://louisville.scout.com/a.z?s=17&p=9&c=4&yr=2012 for more details  . I am looking forward to next year, and the year after already.
