It is pretty slow right now, which is common for this time of year. We are getting some nibbles via guests, but no bites. We need a good solid topic that will create a stir and get people talking again. The problem is that there is very little going on in CFB to talk about. I have a couple of things i'm going to introduce for discussion, but sadly nothing that is worth a 4 or 5 page thread.

Start a "TCU sucks" thread. That'll give you more than 5 pages.

Not dead...site is just resting...

I, personally, just got worn down talking to a brick wall.

If folks post an interesting topic, folks will respond....

For instance:

I am getting interested in the concept of what we consider to be "good" in terms of football teams...playing around with predictive vs retrodictive computer ratings vs Vegas odds vs human polls....I will post when I finish my thoughts. The human polls are actually looking better to me than I thought they would since the human brain actually performs the basic calculations that determine "Good".

I think we all agree with Mark Hopkin's thought on "Good"..

"I don't believe statistics has much to say about what kind of rating is
most appropriate. The question "What does Good mean?" is not a question of statistical assessment. It is completely empirical, as far as sports ratings goes. The empirical question is: "What does Good mean in the mind of a human being looking at the sports results of a given league?"

The only way to answer this is to find out what people actually say is good
and not good and then try to uncover the underlying laws governing their choices.

The underlying laws seem to be that whoever wins the most games against the best opponents is Good, notwithstanding point margins. "

This is a very good point. Some people think 6-5 is good. My definition of good is a team that would be able to beat any team in the country on about any day. Not upset, mind you, but on any given day they could win against anyone. I believe there are between 8 and 12 of these teams in most any year. Good teams do not lose to bad teams ever.

Average, which covers most other teams in the country. These are teams that could beat a good team on a good day, but not on any day. This probably covers 75-80 teams.

Bad teams are the easiest ones to fond. They dwell in the bottom of their conferences and they are the teams that everyone wants to play in the homecoming game.

I would have a designation for great. Great doesn't even come along every year. Sometimes, though, a team comes a long that is head and shouders about everyone else. These are the teams I would deem great. There hasn't been many "great" teams, but that is how it should be when defining great.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Yeah, some even think TCU is good.

I can't help myself.

WE DIDN'T STOCK THE POND...with apology to Billy Joel

New Wave bands and Billy Joel
The off-season takes its toll
The Big East sucks, Billybud's a troll.

Illinois makes a crater
and CLF is a master baiter
he makes the stats scream
TCU is his team

Jewelry, lip balm
Third and one, throw the bomb
Makes the Buckeyes want to puke.
So they yell "It's just a fluke!"

Mile-High denies it's true
But we all know that Ralphie moos
OU might get lucky
And play for the rubber ducky!

We didn't stock the pond
They were always swimming
Since the Net's beginning
We didn't stock the pond
No, we didn't wish it
We're just tryin' to fish it

Whoa Nelly, push-it-up; little Steffie, yipping pup
Red sauce, yeller sauce, beauty queens and tarts
Herbie, Emerson, pourin' scorn on Michigan

Rolltide...pure Bama dude
CLF is just confused
Ktffan posts with zealous art
Spence thinks he knows who's smart

Spence, Derek..found 'em
Rootin' for the Nits
'Gainst the rail, drinkin' ale
Mockin' Baby Bowden!

We didn't stock the pond
They were always swimming
Since the Net's beginning
We didn't stock the pond
No, we didn't wish it
We're just tryin' to fish it

Where in hell's the magic?
Wolverine fans act tragic
Noles got defensive pride
Kicks still go wide.

Ktffan gets obscene
Tryin' to keep his pride post clean
He's a freaking walkin' history
While CLF is a mystery

USC, west or east
is the team we like the least.

We didn't stock the pond
They were always swimming
Since the Net's beginning
We didn't stock the pond
No, we didn't wish it
We're just tryin' to fish it.

The message board isn't dead. I had to check about 15 different topics that I haven't read yet. If you think this is dead, just check out the old board in April.

It's picked up considerably. When I posted, it'd had about 3 messages in a day.
