Re: Do you really think Notre Dame "stands alone"?

He grew very upset when I said this and wanted to wager on this. He was so upset when he lost his money he left the bar. I don't know why so many people think ND has won more than anyone else or has the greatest traditions, etc. I guess it is the two hokey movies made about ND football, the one in the 40's and "Rudy".

By the way, in case you are wondering, ND has won 9 undisputed National Championships and split the championship (one poll or another) 3 times.
Yale has 11 undisputed National Championships..............

Now this has gone way over the edge. Is there nothing scared on this site. Is there no reverence at all. We are talking Ronald Regan and a movie that always makes you tear.

"And the last thing he said to me, "Rock," he said, "sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper.

if you are going to paste from the NCAA website...good idea to also paste the disclaimer....which of course they disclaim everything.

Nearly every year has some 'controversy' surrounding it, as far as the NC is concerned. Unless I'm mistaken, the NCAA doesn't 'endorse' nor recognize any national championships, officially, they leave that up to those organizations, that 'sponsor' it, which are several.

From the source posted by Donovan:
Past Division I-A Football National Champions

The NCAA does not conduct a national championship in Division I-A football and is not involved in the selection process. Since 1998, the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) has conducted a contest between it's two top-ranked teams to determine a national champion.

A number of polling organizations also provide a final ranking of Division I-A football teams at the end of each season. (A compilation of those cited, edited by 'yours truly', to show years of 'concensus'. (multiple NC don't necessarily 'preclude' a 'unanimous' NC, IMO.

true....Georgia's only NC was not undisputed by even minor polls that I had never heard of.

EVEN THOUGH the were the only undefeated team that year, at least my memory tells me so.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Yep, they've got a shot .... gotta' win out though.

Did you get a chance to watch the Mountaineer defense on Saturday?

Rodriguez shook-up the starting line-up in the defensive backfield and those kids are hungry. There were some licks being thrown out there on both sides of the ball.

Did you see the lick McLee put on the Cincy QB? :o  I thought for sure he had knocked him out ...... maybe he did, because the very next play he threw it right to the safety. 8)

Tough, hard hitting bunch those Bearcats ......

I was watching Inside the Polls on ESPNU today, and somehow the Mountaineers were brought up. Then McShay just says "maybe that Cincinnati defense, statistically, was overrated."

Well, gee, do you think it might have to do with the fact that nobody has had much success stopping them?

Well, maybe they are, but the Bearcats put up those numbers against some pretty good competition that's for certain.

Cincy's Schedule:

Sat, Sep 2 Eastern Kentucky W 31-0
Fri, Sep 8 Pittsburgh L 15-33
Sat, Sep 16 at (1) Ohio State L 7-37
Sat, Sep 23 at (11) Virginia Tech L 13-29
Sat, Sep 30 Miami (OH) W 24-10
Sat, Oct 7 Akron W 20-14
Sat, Oct 14 at (7) Louisville L 17-23
Sun, Oct 22 South Florida W 23-6
Sat, Oct 28 Syracuse W 17-3
Sat, Nov 11 at (10) West Virginia L 24-42
Sat, Nov 18 (7) Rutgers 7:45 pm
Sat, Nov 25 at Connecticut

You know, that's what really twirls my beanie .... some talking head makes a statement without any basis whatsoever and all of a sudden some folks give it creditability.

I was absolutely tickled to death with turn of events and how things turned out last Saturday. The Mountaineers started 3 freshmen in the defensive backfield ..... and the Bearcat's secondary demonstrated to those young guys just how a DB is supposed to attack the ball and deliver a lick .... you could tell the young guys were a little tentative early on, but by about half way through the 2nd qtr., after watching the Bearcats deliver some hits, those young guys were dealing some shots of their own.

Hardest hitting game I saw all day on both sides of the ball ...... not to take anything away of the Southern Cal defense, boy, the Trojans were dealing some shots of their own.

Cincy has a good defense. Mark Dantonio is a defensive whiz. There is no doubt in my mind that Cincy was bringing the wood. They are still a few players from being a great defense, but they will get there.
