I feel for those who weren't raised with the great southern philosophers...

Like Foghorn Leghorn. "Stop, I say stop, son. You're doing a lot of choppin' but no chips are flyin'"

I can't tell you how many times in business I used the Uncle Remus "briar patch strategy". Act like I really don't want one result of the two possible only to be pushed that way.

I say, son, I say, he's as sharp as a pound of wet liver.

My southern grandfather was a true Atticus Finch...except, instead of the eccentric name of Atticus, he had the eccentric name Devotion (an old family name).

I am always humbled that you "feel my pain." There is no doubt, Los Angeles born, Senator Foghorn Leghorn is one of the great philosopher and I think he once said and you have heeded his words,

The difference between wesr coasters and us old southerners is that Californians thought that Foghorn Leghorn was a cartoon comedy.

Us southerners, raised in the african tradition of barnyard fables, immediately knew that we were in the presence of a pinfeathered Plato. The direct philosophical descendent of Brer Rabbit.

Foghorn sits in the southern pantheon of folk philosophers. Not as current or revered as the wisdom of Barney Fife, of course.

A moderator should have nipped it in the bud.

I reckon we have carried this to its conclusion..."I say, boy, I say, I see you choppin' but no chips are flyin" "

Major Applewhite is the OC for Houston and that program is on the rise. I think this game is more of a toss up than people think. I would not be surprised to see Houston put up 40+.

Houston will be a good game...they have a great QB and some receivers who will play in the next league.

Vegas has FSU by 7....

I believe that FSU is the only AP ranked team that has not had more than 24 points scored against them. So 40 by Houston would be a great game for the Cougars and a notch for the spread offenses.

Houston has great skill athletes and a good scheme...they will, however, have to adjust to the over all speed and athleticism of a good P% team.

BYU will play in its 11th consecutive bowl game on Saturday, one of only 11 programs in the country able to make that claim. The Cougars are 6-4 in bowl games in that span, trailing only Florida State (seven) for bowl wins since 2005.

I think this is the 34th year that FSU has gone to a bowl...to lazy to do the math...the last season FSU did not play in a bowl game was 1981....

But these teams went on the road and beat these "better" teams.

Parity...

Furman has NEVER beaten Virginia Tech - maybe you're thinking of James Madison in 2010. At any rate, these very few once-in-a-blue moon upsets don't equal parity.

Appalachian State goes to Michigan and beats the winningest program in division 1. But from the time I started watching college football in 1999, I would never guess JMU or Furman beating VT. And the others I mentioned.

Again, Furman has NEVER beaten Virginia Tech.
