What Do You Think…….

Postby Mountainman » Thu Dec 30, 2021 9:30 pm

………. The ref says forward progress was stopped, did the ref make the right call?????? 8)

On the first possession of overtime, Jamar Brown and Kieren Douglas stopped Vols running back Jaylen Wright short on fourth-and-goal at the 1. The stop was upheld on review for Wright’s forward progress being stopped despite Wright reaching the ball over the goal line before the whistle without a knee touching the ground while laying on top of Douglas.

His legs were still moving. He wasn’t on the ground. I think they called forward progress stopped too soon.

His legs stopped moving before he reached the ball out ...

His teammate was pulling him forward.

Tough call, because the whistle did not blow until after he did reach the ball over.

Sketchy, so, I'm glad I wasn't the guy in the striped shirt.

It is a tough call, but the ball cross the plane of the goal line before the whistle blew and his knees never touched the ground.

To me, this should have been a touchdown.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I didn’t think the legs stopped moving at all. That was key to me. If the legs stopped then forward progress stopped, but I don’t think they did.

Looking at both pictures and comparing where all four players and the ball are located in the top photo to where they are in the bottom photo, while using the goal line as a reference, I can most certainly see forward movement by all players and the ball…….. so I can only surmise the ref made the call before these photos were taken. That tells me it was a pretty darn quick whistle!!!!!!

I’ll see if I can fine more video of the play that shows what happened before these photos were taken. :?

I was rooting for Purdue too, but his legs were moving. I guess you could argue that his legs stopped for a fraction of a second before his buddy started to pull him over, but I don't see it. Accirding to the announcers the ref can rule the play down before he blows the whistle, but that is a load of crap if you ask me. Besides I don't see a reason to say progress was stopped and I wanted to see a reason. I told my wife they would over turn it and rule it a TD, but they didn't. I guess replay wasn't involved because of the on field refs ruling that forward progress had stopped.

It is all about the feet. I agree completely. I don't think anyone can argue that.
