CFP Trivia Challenge Question Game 40

Postby Spence » Sat Jun 10, 2006 7:52 pm

From Ktffan,

What team has the most victories in a given year over teams that won a major conference championship (or co championships) in that year? (major conferences are defined as Big Ten, SEC, Big 8 (1928-1995), Southwest, PAC-10 (1916-), ACC (1953-), Big East, Big 12).

Name the team and the year

Oh, you know me, too lazy to look stuff up

I figured it was going to be Notre Dame again. They just played a wide variety of teams like Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Stanford, and Michigan, I think, so it was strictly another guess.

If this one's too far out there, I'll start giving hints. If there's not a fair shot at answering it, the question is no good.

Two, USC and Michigan.

There have been 124 teams that have beaten two or more such teams in a season. There are 14 that have won more.

Three teams beat 4. One team beat 5. That's the one we are looking for.

Here's a hunch, is it The United States Military Academy at West Point?

Let's see here now .... I had a hunch it was Army, and on another question I had a hunch it was Jim Plunkett ..... both were wrong ...... :?: :?: :?:

I think maybe hunching may not be so good a way to approach these things.
