Portland State-Montana

Postby BYUfan1 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:12 pm

A furious comeback by the Portland State Vikings fell short as they lost to the Montana Grizzlies 69-67. In the second half, the Vikings were down as much as 154 points and were down nine with 3:01 to go. Portland State found themselves down 2 after a missed free throw by Mathias Ward with four seconds left in the game but didn't get a final shot off as Will Cherry tipped the ball out of Gary Winston's hands as he was driving to the basket. The Grizzlies shot 50% (25-50) from the field while the Vikings shot 50% (6-12) from 3-point range but only 42.3% (22-52) overall.

Charles Odum of Portland State committed 7 of the team's 15 turnovers, but he did score 19 points and dish out 4 assists. Chehales Tabscott had 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals in the losing effort for the Vikings. Will Cherry had 20 points and 5 steals for the victorious Grizzlies while Ward ended up with 18 points. Montana (15-6) has won 10 of their last 11 games and are 8-1 in conference play. Portland State is now 4-5 in the Big Sky and 10-11 overall.
