College Baseball...
Anyone out there college baseball fans. I of course follow the Razorbacks. They set an attendance record last year. The Hogs were the first college baseball team to ever average over 10,000 fans per game. Arkansas and LSU have been battling it out for the last few years at setting all kinds of attendance records.
Today the baseball news poll came out and has Arkansas ranked #1 in the country and their next series is against #2 Arizona State. Man I wish I was in Arkansas to see these games. I am sure Arkansas will set a new attendance record for this series. The hogs have been ranked high in baseball many, many times but this is their first #1 ranking is school history in baseball.
Go Hogs beat them Sun Devils!!!!!

I'm not really, but I'll watch the occassional game on ESPNU. The Big 10 Network shows some baseball that I may watch.....Eventually
One of those things I never get around to.....
Good luck to Arkansas this season!

Well, the #1 Razorbacks just beat the #1 Arizona Sun Devils. Depends what poll you look at. Hogs won 7-3. They play game two tomorrow.
Go Hogs!!!

I check in every once in a while. I'd much rather play baseball than watch it. I do know that Georgia is ranked #1 right now, but that's about it.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Re: College Baseball...
Derek...in which poll. The three main polls in college baseball are the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, Baseball America poll, and Collegiate News poll. Arkansas is #1 in the Collegiate Baseball News poll. Arizona State is #1 in both the USA Today/Coaches poll, and Baseball America poll.
I know at one time Georgia was #2 in several polls...may have been #1 but they no longer are. And if the Hogs can beat Arizona State again tonight then the Razorbacks will probably be #1 in all of the polls. However, Georgia is ranked above the Hogs in 2 of the 3 polls right now. Baseball polls are crazy...and the three polls seldom jize.

Re: College Baseball...
I have always like Georgia baseball the best! The Braves!
I quit watching after college. With baseball I could still do my studies, it doesn't take 100% attention. Since college I have been trying to limit myself to College Football, a few pro games, NASCAR, and some NBA (especially play-offs). If you try to watch all the sports it don't leave much room!

Re: College Baseball...
#1 Arkansas just swept #1 Arizona State....Hogs win both games: 7-3 in game one and 8-7 in game two.
Razorbacks set a Baum Stadium attendance record at 11,014 (that is for game two only....not sure what the attendance for game one was). If Hogs keep playing like this they will set all kinds of attendance records again. Go Hogs!

Yeah, Georgia was #1 for a short time (don't know which poll) but got beat by LSU day before yesterday, so I'm sure they dropped.

Re: College Baseball...
Baseball polls are really meaningless, they change drastically from week to week, and the three major polls seldom agree on anything.

How do they work the baseball play-off?

Re: College Baseball...
If I am not mistaken your conference standing and RPI determines post season play (they have a selection process much like college basketball does for March Madness). The top teams also get to host a regional or super regional at their home stadium. The college world series is then held in Omaha Nebraska.

Re: College Baseball...
I thought they'd need some sort of selection process. It has got to be harder to know a team's quality in baseball.

Re: College Baseball...
The use the RPI for basketball, the March madness thing...and for college baseball. Works pretty well in basketball...not so hot in baseball. Was developed to rank teams with unequal scheduling. Sort of the SOS.

About how many games do they play in baseball? Knowing more about the pros, I figured they might play more games than the basketball teams do. If so that would help? But I also realize pro baseball can have so many games because the season is so, so long!

Re: College Baseball...
College teams play about 30 games a year. Because a lot of schools have baseball teams, the major schools will play games with local colleges and many of them are very competitive. That is what the RPI is suppose to do. Same issues that are discussed here, how do you rank teams that never compete. Takes a lot of data and baseball does not always get it all, especially from some of the local games. Schools in good weather play a lot more games in much better circumstances. In the Northwest games are played in weather that would be canceled anywhere else. The World Series of baseball does get a valid champion from those in the show...whether or not they have the right teams there is the question. Probably sometimes and sometimes not.
