--- 2020 Bowl Picks ---

Postby Cane from the Bend » Mon Dec 21, 2020 8:15 pm

---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Sorry about the delay; I didn't realize the first Bowl Game was scheduled for tonight.
I suppose it should have been obvious, since we're 21 days into December, already.

For the National Championship game, I've listed it as:

(27.) CFP National Championship pres. by AT&T
Winner of Rose Bowl -v- Winner of Sugar Bowl

Just pick the team you believe will win the Title. [or Ohio State if your name is Spence]

Next game is tomorrow, so this week, your picks will be locked once you post them.

Meaning; whichever day you post your predictions, those will be where your valid
selections become active.

In other words: If you post your picks on Wednesday, you miss out on the Tuesdays
games.

If you post your picks tomorrow at 4 pm, you missed the Tulane/Nevada Bowl, but
the UCF/BYU game will be accepted, since it kicks off at 7 pm.

1. Tulane
2. BYU
3. Georgia Southern
4. Memphis
5. Houston (here we go again)
6. Buffalo (sorry Little Brother)
7. Coastal Carolina
8. UAB
9. Louisiana-Lafayette
10. Georgia State
11. Okie State
12. Texas
13. Whisky
14. Iowa
15. Oklahoma (I’ll flip this one a couple of times)
16. Tulsa
17. San Jose State (They do play football in California)
18. West Virginia (Tennessee has cancelled, we’ll see)
19. TCU
20. Cincinnati
21. Auburn
22. Alabama
23. Clemson
24. N.C. State
25. Indiana
26. Iowa State
27. Texas A&M

28. Alabama

I see the Vegas guys have Bama by 8, but after watching the Buckeyes absolutely manhandle Clemson and seeing a Justin Fields do what he did, I have no idea. I’m going to see the Witch!!!

OK, I’ve consulted with the Witch, see below....... WHEW!!!!!! That gal knows how to ‘consult’!!!!!! (see below)

Turns out she’s a big Nick Saban fan...... she explained that Nick grew-up and played his High School Football right outside of Fairmont and she would lose her broomstick if she ever did anything that may interfere with the ‘Magic’ that “Nicky” has going on down in Alabama. So, she told me, “You’re on your own on this one, Mountainman”. She then blew me a kiss and flew away........

Soooooo, I’m on my own, and here’s what I’ve come up with.........

After watching the Buckeyes last weekend absolutely dominate Clemson there’s absolutely no question in my mind they’ve earned their spot in the Title Game. I watched Justin Fields put on a performance that was simply outstanding both running and passing the ball. I watched as the Ohio State running game manhandle the Clemson run defense. I also saw where the Buckeye defense stuffed he Clemson running game, but their pass defense against the Tigers was not nearly as effective or successful when defending the Tigers’ passing game.

I also watched the Crimson Tide last weekend. Offensively, in a word, awesome!!! Powerful running game and an outstanding passing game. Defensively, strong up front, but not so much on the backside. The Tide jumped out early in the game, then simply put it in cruise control, and Notre Dame was never in it.

Therefore, my pick, reflected above, was arrived at because of my belief that the Alabama passing game will out perform the Ohio State passing defense....... but there is a wild card in the deck, will the pending exit of Steve Sarkisian impact the play of the Crimson Tide??? We’ll see......

8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Honestly, it's not a bad pick ...

I considered them, too. Might even change the pick before all is said and done.

Well, they have as good of a shot as Notre Dame, and a better shot than Cincy or A&M.

I think they have a better shot than ND, but Ohio State has a weakness in the backfield and on the weak side offensive line. Clemson will exploit that and I don't think Ohio State can get it fixed. The db's needed a few more games. There is no fixing the left guard.

You can always count on Dabo. Day is usually pretty buttoned up in public. He must not have paid attention to who was in the locker room.

Yep, that’ll do it for most Buckeyes and their fans......

We’re about to find out if he’s right about this year’s Buckeyes and he very well could be, but Dabo throwing shade about conference play in the BIG compared to the conference play in the ACC he has faced over the past few years is waaaaaaay outta’ line.

I know, I know....... it’s just hype,

Yeah, that is the whole problem with this system. Indiana had maybe the best team they have ever had this year. People just can't buy that they may be good. Even when they were playing Ohio State they went down 35-7. So did they make adjustments and mount a come back or did Ohio State players realize they weren't as good as they thought and lay down, letting Indiana back in it? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know Pentix is a solid QB and Fryfogle is an NFL receiver.

I think Cincinnati was the team that got hosed the worst. They did everything they could do. Indiana, A&M, and Florida all lost games. All lost to teams in the playoff.

.......just thought Indiana should have got a better bowl game than the Outback.

As for Cincy, they did all they could do, but until Group of 5 teams play stronger schedules they won’t break the CFP top 4 in the current system, and as you said, Indiana, Texas A&M and Florida all had a shot during the regular season and lost.
