Life is TRIPLE SWEET

Postby Swamp Daddy » Tue Apr 09, 2013 2:45 pm

I need to crow, er Cardinal, this morning. And, I would do so except for that Burger King sized headache I have this morning from too many after game activities after our 3rd Championship win.

15 straight wins to this point:

Life is Sweet: Winning the BE tournament BACK TO BACK and being the overall #1 seed.
Life is Double Sweet: 4-Straight to Win Midwest Regional to go to the Final Four for the second straight year.
Life is TRIPLE SWEET: Closing out with our 3rd National Championship

Run to the Crown:
BE tournament: Villanova, Notre Dame and Syracuse down in flames
NCAA 1st weekend: NC A&Tm, and Colorado State beaten
NCAA 2nd weekend: Oregon & Duke defeated
NCAA 3rd weekend: Wichita Shockers and Michigan left behind
2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (temporarily on top of the game)

One of my highlights: Watching Digger Phelps pick whatever team was playing Louisville to win (now there's a real fan) :?
Watching coach K's amazing expressions when things don't go his way with the refs (like 50 more fouls for Duke)

What a long wait for football this fall. I am worn out posting on the local boards, I may have to take a long vacation.

I have to tip my hat to Louisville. It's rare that the hottest team in the country also gets the #1 overall seed, but it was kind of indisputable that Louisville was playing the best basketball in the country heading into the tournament. They are the deepest team I've seen all year.

I also have to tip my hat to Michigan since I'm such a downer. I doubted them before and during the hype and I thought I was right about how overrated they were. But when they were clicking together, they were one of the best basketball teams in the nation. I was glad to have been proven wrong. 8)

I should say though that I wasn't even disappointed that Michigan lost because, since I'm such a pessimistic fan, I had no expectation of them beating a team as deep as Louisville. Albrecht had made a mild believer out of me, but I still took a "I'll believe it when I see it" approach.

Well Albrecht had his moments in the limelight; but, I figured it couldn't go that way the whole game. And, once our answer, Luke Hancock, got in the game it sort of evened out. Several years ago, in UL's last game in historic Freedom Hall, a little used sophmore sub named Kyle Kuric came in during the second half for an injured player. He went nuts scoring 22 points 4-3 pointers, dunks, etc. So I know those games can happen.

Still, UL was able all season to control the second half of games; and, with only one point at the half and I wasn't too worried. I dont' think they will be that good next year; but, who knows what the incoming freshmen will do.

Now, $100  worth of t-shirts later, I am calming down a bit. UL fans have waited a long time for this (as did Michigan fans who don't need to hang their heads and they should be very good next year).

Just bought the all UL commerative issue of Sports Illustrated about the championship. This made me recall SI's top 20 (not the top 25 yet) in opening of the 1980 season which totally lacked UL in the listings and even in the maybe mentions. Of course, they also won the championship that year.

I will have to see if I can find the SI for the start of the 2012-13 season. I suspect UL this time was at the top. LOL.

Locally people are still euphoric over this, for many of them, once in a lifetime event. :D

Junior Russ Smith returning for his senior year. 6 coming back from the 8 who played most of the games for next year. Could very well be another banner year.
