Thank you and goodnight, Sporting News(print)

I remain a bit of a stats-nut. SN in the early 80's had every box score of the prior two weeks and even minor league standings. I was very fun a fan of SN, pre-internet. With the internet age, it seemed pointless for SN to continue to provide the raw data that became ubiquitously available. Attempts to soldier on with a new identity proved futile in a crowded marketplace.

I would've attempted to keep those past issues, but they were biodegrading before my eyes. There were good articles in addition to the stats.

As of January 1, 2013, there will be no more regular issues of SN on the stands. Some preview issues for major sports will be tangible on newsstands, but they will now be primarily an online magazine.

Kind of sad. I haven't read sporting news for a long time. Not since I went from being a huge baseball fan to just a casual fan. SN was a baseball junkies bible. In a sport were stats are king they were the best at providing every stat possible. Sorry to see them go.

I was subscribed to Sporting News for some time earlier in the decade, but with high-speed Internet, print magazines have become dinosaurs.

I still like the print mags.
