Another casualty of tobacco. I hope that is one tradition in baseball that we lose. We have lost too many of the games best to cancer.

Indeed...and amazing that minor leagues have banned chewing tobacco from their players, can be ejected if on the field...but the majors..well...guess we will work on anabolic steroids first...or not.

Yeah, the steriod thing is a joke. They only decided to care about it when the treasured records started to fall. Baseball's powers new full well about the steriod problems a good 15 years before anyone even spoke about the problem. A few players - Ken Griffey jr. was one - decided not to do it and his career followed a pretty normal path. Bonds broke all the records and was everything that was wrong about the game. Hopefully one day baseball will get back to being about the game and not the players.

Griffey Jr is my favorite player. With his injury problems he could have easily taken HGH or steroids and he would probably be the all time homerun leader. As far as anyone can tell he never used the stuff. That's why his numbers are so impressive when comparing them with those who juiced: McGwire, Sosa, Bond, A. Rod, Palmero, Manny Ramirez, etc. That also makes Killebrew's numbers impressive as well.

I think these are accurate. Now out of the top 15 here are the known steroid users: #1 Bonds, #6 A. Rod, #7 Sosa, #8 Thome, #10 McGwire, #12 Palmeiro, and #14 Ramirez. That's 7 of the top 15.

He didn't and his body broke down like everyone's does normally. He is maybe the second or third greatest player of all time and no one will ever give him the credit he deserves because of the whole steroid thing and he is one of the very few who did it the right way.
