Incredible College Pitchers Stats...

Postby Dossenator » Sat May 09, 2009 6:31 pm

This kid from San Diego State has had an incredible year and will be the first player selected in the next baseball draft. His stats on the year are: 11-0 with 164 K's in just 87.1 innings (that's insane...he averages 2 K's an inning). He has one game where he threw 23 k's and finished his collegiate career with a 17 k game. Oh...I forgot to mention he throws a 103 MPH fastball (and apparently with accuracy). I look forward to seeing this kid pitch in the big leagues...hopefully he will have an arm left.

His name is Stephen Strasburg.

A 17K no-no is impressive by itself. That is probably 70 pitches to post 17 outs...leaving 10 more hitters to get out with flies and grounders.

How about the 23 k game...this kid is good. Hopefully the team that lands him will not blow his arm out the first year or two he is in the bigs.

I highly doubt it in the bigs...as he is a BIG investment. If his arm is in good shape now they will work to get in even better shape!

I don't know...look at what the Cubs did to Kerry Woods and Pryor not that many years ago. They were lights out their first couple of years...but the Cubs over pitched them to the point where they damanged their arms. Surgeries followed and neither has ever been the same. There are other examples as well. Sometimes these teams just see the W's and don't protect their investments like they should.

Those accounts are part of my reference, the media (you know that one Network) really came down big on those situations. (And for a nice change, probably rightfully so!)

Did you guys happen to hear about the dude from Campbellsville? It's a small NAIA school that had a guy pitch for like 3 days in a row with a 20+ scoreless streak going. I heard he did alright in the championship game but lost.
