North Carolina-Duke

Postby BYUfan1 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 12:46 pm

Austin Rivers hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Duke Blue Devils a 85-84 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels. The loss ended North Carolina's 31-game home winning streak. The Blue Devils shot 36 times beyond the arc, making 14 of them, to offset North Carolina's dominance inside. The Blue Devils were behind by 10 points with about 2.5 minutes left before coming back and winning the game. Tyler Zeller had 23 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina, but he have the been the goat in the game as much as Rivers was the hero. Zeller missed 3 of 4 free throws in the last minute of the game and inadvertently deflected a Ryan Kelly 3-point attempt into the basket with 1:10 left in the game.

Rivers finished the night making 6 shots from long range and scoring 29 points. Harrison Barnes overcame a poor first half to end up with 25 points in the losing effort for the Tar Heels. Both teams are now 20-4 overall and 7-2 in the ACC. There is now a 3-way tie in the Atlantic Coast Conference with Boston College upsetting Florida State earlier in the night.
