UC Riverside-Pacific

Postby BYUfan1 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:31 pm

The Pacific Tigers used defense and free throw shooting to overcome poor shooting and defeat the UC Riverside Highlanders 60-52. The Tigers shot just 31% (15-48) from the field but forced the Highlanders to commit 22 turnovers. Pacific won the points off of turnovers battle 26-13. In the first half Pacific had a 26-13 lead with 3:26 remaining, but UC Riverside went on a 9-0 run to close the half. Pacific went on a 6-0 run in the second half when the score was tied at 45, and the Tigers sealed the game late at the free throw line.

Pacific's Ross Rivera converted on 15 of his 16 free throw attempts. As a team, the Highlanders were only 10-19 from the charity stripe. Rivera finished the game with 19 points and 5 rebounds while Lorenzo McCloud chipped in with 14 points for the Tigers. Austin Quick made 5 of his 7 attempts from beyond the arc to go along with his 17 points for the Highlanders. Senior Phil Martin had 12 points and 7 boards for UC Riverside but was just 4 of 12 from the field, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range. Both Pacific and UC Riverside are now 4-5 in the Big West. The Highlanders drop to 10-12 overall while the Tigers are now 7-13 on the season.
