NC State-Miami, FL

Postby BYUfan1 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:04 am

Scott Wood scored 21 points as the North Carolina Wolfpack went on the road and defeated the Miami Hurricanes 78-73. The Wolfpack had a comfortable lead for most of the game, but a Kenny Kadji dunk with 1:44 left closed the margin to 72-68. Free throws down the stretch closed the deal for NC State. Talking about free throws, Wood set a new ACC record for consecutive free throws made as he is now at 58. He passed the previous record of 54 set by J.J. Redick. To help Wood out, DeShawn Painter came off the bench to score 18 points and collect 7 rebounds.

Three-point shooting was a major factor in the game as the Wolfpack was 6-of-10 from long distance while the Hurricanes made only 2 of their 20 attempts from beyond the arc. The starting guards for the Hurricanes struggled as Durand Scott, Malcolm Grant, and Trey McKinney Jones shot just 4-of-20 from the field and 0-of-8 from 3-point range.

NC State (15-5) is now tied for first in the ACC with Florida State and Duke with a 4-1 record. Miami falls to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
