Norfolk State-Coppin State

Postby BYUfan1 » Tue Jan 17, 2012 2:22 pm

The Norfolk State Spartans are off to their best start ever in MEAC Conference play as they went on the road and defeated the Coppin State Eagles 74-66. The Spartans are now 14-5 and 6-0 in conference. Norfolk State has won 7 games in a row, their longest streak since they won 14 straight in 1994-95 on their way to the Division II Final Four. The game was close in the first half until Perdarvis Williams outscored the Eagles 8-2 by himself in the final four minutes to give the Spartans a 34-26 edge at the break. Senior center Kyle O' Quinn already had a double-double at halftime as he had 10 points and 13 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of the game. O'Quinn would finish with 24 points and 19 rebounds.

Norfolk State basically put the game out of reach when the score was 39-32, and the Spartans went on a 9-0 run. Williams scored a career-high 25 points for the Spartans as he also contributed to the win with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Williams made 6 of his 8 attempts from long distance and was 9-of-12 from the field overall. Coppin State was led by a 20-point effort by Logan Wiens. Senior Antonio Williams had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort for the Eagles.
