Postby BYUfan1 » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:35 am

The Massachusetts Minutemen allowed the Charlotte 49ers to recover from huge deficits in both halves but hung on and won 85-75. UMass took a 21-6 lead in the first six and a half minutes of the game. Charlotte cut the lead down to six near the end of the first half before Raphiael Putney got hot and scored the last five points in the first half for the Minutemen. UMass had as much as a twenty-point lead in the second half, but the 49ers took their only lead in the game, 69-68, with 4:47 left in the game. UMass made 13 of their 14 free throws in the last four minutes of the game to seal the win. UMass is now 9-0 at home.

Putney had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Minutemen while point guard Chaz Williams added 19 points and 6 assists. UMass shot 55.3% from the field and converted on 7 of their 19 attempts from long distance. Center Chris Braswell scored a career-high 31 points for the 49ers.
