Busy Week For the CAA

Postby BYUfan1 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 4:12 am

This week, every team in the Colonial Athletic Association will play three games this week. The action started at noon on Monday when the George Mason Patriots defeated the William & Mary Tribe 70-56. The Tribe led by as much as 10 points in the first half, but the Patriots rallied late to take a 32-31 lead at halftime. George Mason took over the game in the second half when they scored the first 16 points. The Tribe's first points of the second half came on a free throw with 13:26 remaining in the game. Andre Cornelius came off the bench to score 20 points, including making 5 3-point baskets. Ryan Pearson, George Mason's best player, played very little in the first half due to foul problems but ended up with 11 points and 4 rebounds. William & Mary was led by freshman guard Marcus Thornton, who scored a game-high 23 points while going 7-of-13 from the field. George Mason is now 10-4, 2-0 in conference play while William & Mary drops to 2-12 and 0-2 in the CAA.

Junior Keith Rendleman posted his sixth double-double of the season to aid the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in defeating the Delaware Blue Hens 80-75. For the game, Rendleman had 24 points and 18 rebounds. In the first half, there were 11 lead changes and 10 ties. Devon Saddler scored 22 points for the Blue Hens, and Jamelle Hagins had 21 points and 9 boards. Both teams are 5-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Other CAA scores on Monday:

Old Dominion 67 James Madison 61 OT
Northeastern 57 Towson 48
VCU 80 Hofstra 63
Georgia State 58 Drexel 44

Georgia State, VCU, Old Dominion, and George Mason are all 2-0 in the conference. Drexel, Hofstra, Towson, and William & Mary are all 0-2 in the CAA. Some experts had Georgia State finishing in last place this year but are off to a 10-3 start this season. Drexel has yet to win a conference game despite being one of the favorites to win the conference before the season started.
