UCF-Bethune-Cookman

Postby BYUfan1 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:06 am

Without Marcus Jordan and A.J. Rompza, the UCF Knights had to come from behind to defeat the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 53-51. Missing their two best 3-point shooters and ballhandlers the Knights were just 1-of-9 from long range, and they committed 16 turnovers. The Wildcats led 28-22 at the half. The Knights took a 49-48 lead with 3:04 remaining in the second half. That was the first lead UCF had since they were ahead 5-4.

Bethune-Cookman could have won the game but made costly mistakes late. First, Kevin Dukes went to the foul line late in the game with the Wildcats trailing 51-50. However, he only made 1-of-2 free throws. Then, seconds later, UCF's Isaiah Sykes was fouled with 3.5 seconds remaining when Anthony Breeze try to draw a charging foul. Sykes made both of his attempts, and the Wildcats to make the last shot of the game.

Sykes had 15 points and 4 rebounds for the Knights. Keith Clanton was only 4-of-13 from the floor but still finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists for UCF. Dukes made 4 of his 7 attempts from long range and totaled 13 points for the Wildcats. Garrius Holloman contributed 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in the losing effort.
