DePaul-Chicago State

Postby BYUfan1 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:23 am

What looked like an NBA preseason contest was really a college basketball game as the DePaul Blue Demons defeated the Chicago State Cougars 102-95. DePaul was up 40-23 with less than eight minutes to go in the first half, but the Blue Demons lost their defensive intensity that they never regained. DePaul went into the half with a 51-47 lead.

Cleveland Melvin led the way for DePaul with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Jeremiah Kelly was 5-for-9 from long distance on his way to scoring 19 points. Point guard Brandon Young registered 21 points and dished out 7 assists for the Blue Demons. Derrell Robertson had the stat of the night by getting 5 blocks in just 14 minutes of action.

Chicago State lost the game despite shooting 50.7% from the field, which turned out to be a higher percentage than DePaul shot. The difference in the game was the 21 turnovers by the Cougars compared to the 15 committed by the Blue Demons. Northern Illinois transfer Lee Fisher had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Matt Samuels scored 20 points while Jeremy Robinson had 17 points and 7 boards for the Cougars.
