Monster class for UL

Postby Swamp Daddy » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:21 pm

A so-called monster recruiting class is coming in for the 2011-12 season. If they all actually show up (we've had numerous disappointments before) thing will look rosy here.

I think Rick Pitino is finally responding to the recruiting pressure (success) by Calipari at KY.

Time will tell, Swamp Daddy :)

3 current players, who get lots of minutes, are voluntarily giving up scholarships and paying their own way to make room for the super 5 players coming in to get scholarships. What a bench we will have next year :D . should be interesting.

Coach Rick Pitino has done his usual weird lineup changes during the exhibition season. And, the number of injuries to players over the past 3 years (going to year 4 this year) is starting to raise questions about what is going on. Pitino says bad luck. Ohers wonder about the normal practice routine of running player into the ground making the well conditioned but extremely tired most of the time.

Still, if you believe half the rosy pronouncements, it will be a good year. Our new arena is great and might be the best around. Others take note of it  when watching TV games.

Well, exhibition season is past, we're 4 into the regular season. The team plays hard; has won against medium strength other teams. However, we are, at this point, overrated. No real offensive rhythm as last years team. I'm sure worrying about the UK game next month -- they might really give us a lesson.

But, many Pitino teams develop this way too.

Nearly 1/4rd of the way in the season, we are 8-0 mostly against weak competition. The end of the season last year and periods of practice up to this year left us injury ridden and missing a lot of good players. The team appears to be slowly reassembling into a functioning unit with the return of Jared Swopshire (from a groin injury), Rakeem Buckles, and others. Two newcomers Dieng (a monster big man) who is becoming a shot blocker and Chane Behanan with his slick moves are good additions.

Right now we are overrated; our true situation may come on 12/31 when we visit Kentucky at their place. I don't look forward to this; but, maybe luck will grant an upset.

Hopefully by March the Cardinals will be a cohesive unit.
