No. 3 seeded Purdue used tough defense to easily defeat the No. 14 seeded St. Peter's Peacocks 65-43. St. Peter's scored just 17 points in the first half, the lowest first-half total so far in the NCAA Tournament. E'Twaun Moore paced the Boilermakers 19 points and 4 rebounds. JaJuan Johnson was forced to take more jumpers than usual and made just six of his 16 shots. Johnson still recorded a double-double by tallying 16 points and 16 points. Purdue, looking for a reliable third scorer, found one this night in point guard Lewis Jackson. Jackson finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Jeron Belin had 12 points and 5 rebounds for the Peacocks on 4-of-12 shooting. However, he did convert successfully on 3 of his 8 shots from long distance. Wesley Jenkins, the leading scorer on the season for St. Peter's, was just 4-of-15 from the floor.
