BYU Sanctioned

In a self-reported violation, BYU has been sanctioned for violations involving some boosters and apparently one player. There has been a long-standing vendetta toward BYU from the NCAA committees, save football, because of what is known as the BYU rule, they won't play on Sunday and that history with the NCAA is some good reading. I think the violations are serious and there should be penalties, but read the article and see if the punishment fits the crime.

All you have to do is look at how they handled North Carolina to know that the NCAA make judgements based on it’s own best financial interests. Right and wrong or even consistent do not play into their decisions.

Look on the sidelines of any football game today and see how many boosters and/or alumni are standing there. It is not a stretch to think that boosters everywhere have access to players.

There is alot of rulings and punishments handed out by the NCAA that just doesnt fit. One team gets a slap, the other gets the boot. Its all about the money. Certain schools can bribe their way to justice. Sadly thats a reflection on society as a whole. Made worse by a team like BYU or a Boise football program. When you are the thorn in the side, they take a lil extra joy in dishing out punishment. Every basketball selection show, they go on about why BYU was put in a particular bracket because they wont play Sundays. Most times its an irrelevant fact but the committee wants to make sure everyone knows, they got some special treatment for it.

Just a quick side: Gonzaga had a strong showing in Maui. Duke made a good comeback, that was a fun game. I dont pay alot of attention to early season basketball but did catch a couple games.
