Notre Dame-Virginia

Postby BYUfan1 » Wed Jan 29, 2014 6:15 am

The Virginia Cavaliers used runs at the beginning of each half to rout the Notre Dame fighting Irish 68-53. The Cavaliers made 14 of their first 18 shots and used a 17-3 run to take a 32-12 lead in the first half. Notre Dame was able to rally late to trail just 34-24 at halftime. However, Virginia opened the second half with a 9-0 spurt, and the game was basically over at that point. The Fighting Irish turned the ball over a season-high 20 times and shot just 42.6% (20-47) from the field. Only two Notre Dame players, Zach Auguste and Demetrius Jackson, reached doubled figures in points with each registering 10 points. Virginia shot 53.8% (28-52) from the floor and 45.5% (5-11) from long distance. Malcolm Brogdon led the Cavaliers with 16 points and six assists while Mike Tobey chipped in with 14 points. The Cavaliers move to 7-1 in ACC action and 16-5 overall with the victory while the Irish fall to 11-10 and 2-6 in conference play.
