Northern Illinos-Kent State

Postby BYUfan1 » Thu Jan 16, 2014 5:45 am

The Kent State Golden Flashes scored the first seven points of the overtime session and went on to defeat the Northern Illinois Huskies on the road 73-64. The overtime period played out in stark contrast to how the first two halves started out. The Huskies had an eleven point lead about halfway through the first period and led by as much as 13 points in the second half. Devareaux Manley hit a 30-foot shot with 39 seconds remaining in the second half to tie the game at 58. NIU played for the final shot but was never able to get one off. Both teams struggled shooting as the Golden Flashes shot 38% for the game, and the Huskies shot 36.4%. Kris Brewer led the way for Kent State with 25 points while Derek Jackson, a transfer from Central Michigan chipped in with 14 points and 4 assists. Aaron Armstead registered 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies. The Golden Flashes are now 11-5 and 2-1 in conference play as NIU falls to 1-2 in the MAC and 7-8 for the season.
