DePaul-St. John's

Postby BYUfan1 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 1:31 am

Freshman point guard Billy Garrett scored 21 points as the DePaul Blue Demons defeated the St. John's Red Storm 77-75. The victory marked the first time since January of 2008 that DePaul has won back-to-back Big East Conference games. The win also ended DePaul's eight-game losing streak to St. John's. A jumper by Cleveland Melvin put DePaul up 76-75 with 2:19 left in the game. The Red Storm had several chances to take the lead including a 3-point attempt by Max Hooper that missed with four seconds remaining. Brandon Young made one of two free throws for DePaul, and Rysheed Jordan's halfcourt shot hit the top of the backboard as time expired. D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's with 24 points.
