Sam Houston State-McNeese State

Postby BYUfan1 » Fri Jan 10, 2014 4:19 am

Sam Houston State had a 17 point lead at halftime but had to hold on late for a 86-81 victory over the McNeese State Cowboys. The Bearkats made six 3-pointers and shot almost 47% from the field to jump out to a commanding advantage. Sam Houston State seemed to lose interest near the middle of the second half after getting almost every lose ball in the first half. McNeese State trimmed the lead to just one point with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game. Paul Baxter missed two free throws for the Bearkats, but the ball was between the rim and the backboard and Sam Houston State retained possession because of the arrow. Baxter then made two free throws to seal the victory for the Bearkats.

Kaheem Ransom scored 17 points (12-14 from the free throw line) and collected 9 rebounds to lead the Bearkats. Michael Holyfield chipped in with 14 points and 7 boards. Ledrick Eackles of McNeese State had 25 points including four 3-pointers. The Cowboys had strong play off the bench as Shaun Johnson had 12 points, Jamaya Burr had 10, and Keelen Garrett contributed 8 points.
