Running Bowl Leaderboard

Postby Eric » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:08 am

Well, I don't know what to make of this postseason. Apparently we were supposed to pick two 6-6 teams over teams with winning records, but some of these overall records are holding up. The Worst Team in Bowl History (a.k.a., 2012 Central Michigan) managed to put all of us in a bind except for Cane who had CMU. Especially me

The next update will occur after New Year's Eve. The numbers are pretty volatile and will change the more bowl games there are. The best indicator of your standings in the points would probably be points lost, because the more points on the board for you, the more you can add to your total.

Total Points
-------------
1. Donovan - 119
2. Strawman - 109
3. warriorsfan808 - 102
4. Spence - 91
5. Eric - 64
6. armchairqb - 47
7. wvjohn- 27

Points Lost
--------------
1. Strawman - 35
2. warriorsfan808 - 41
T3. Donovan - 49
T3. wvjohn - 49
5. Spence - 53
6. armchairqb - 54
7. Eric - 62

W/L Record
--------------
T1. Donovan - 6-2
T1. Strawman - 6-2
T3. Eric - 5-3
T3. Spence - 5-3
T3. Cane from the Bend 5-3
T3. warriorsfan808 - 5-3
7. wvjohn - 3-5
8. armchairqb - 2-6

Well; looks like that Texas game panned out for me after all . . .

2 games behind . . . Spence, I'm gunnin' for you.

I won't win. I have my thirty five on Stanford, watch Alvarez get them.

My win/loss isn't poor, but my point total that I put on them was a glaring mistake. I had Western Kentucky at 30, Air Force at 21, Oregon State at 28, and Fresno State at 27. I'm still steamed over 6-6 CMU and 6-6 SMU winning and spoiling my Christmas holiday

I did some spread picks on Fox Sports and those are doing miserably (thankfully I don't gamble  ). The underdogs aren't just taking the points, they're winning straight-up. Rice, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Central Michigan, SMU, Syracuse, Texas, and Baylor have all been favored to lose and they all won. I did take Minnesota and SMU without thinking they'd win, but that's it. If anybody in America all picked these guys to win, I'd be shocked.

You have to give props to Texas though. They fought back, chipping away, playing solid football after getting behind early. I've been lucky that most of my upsets have come through for me. Except I still can believe that the texas Tech Minnesota game was so close. Minny could have won that game. Considering all the B-10 teams are playing 2 positions out of place, that isn't bad.

I thought I had Stanford with 35, but I have Florida. I like most of the rest of my picks. I lost a big one with West Virginia (29pts), so I hope it works out. I don't think I have to many upsets picked from here out.

Yep. I had Michigan State over TCU because I thought MSU had a better defense, and I still think that after this game (I should note that TCU will have one of the best defenses in 2013). Both defenses were great and it wouldn't have been that close had Michigan State not had two minor and uncharacteristic mistakes in the secondary that literally cost them 150 yards and 10 points. Outside of those two plays, they completely dominated TCU.

I agree with your point about being bumped up two spots, but I think the Big 10 won't have too much of an excuse on New Year's. Wisconsin wouldn't be in the Rose, but that would be about it. Ohio State would take Wisconsin's spot theoretically, but Wisconsin probably would have been selected for the BWW Bowl and Penn State probably would have gone to the Meineke Car Care. Northwestern, Michigan, and Nebraska would all have their games against the SEC either way you slice it. I guess Purdue would have been an at-large somewhere else as well (MSU to Dallas, Minnesota to LC Pizza).

I think the bowl pickem comes down to the Texas A&M and Oklahoma game between Strawman and me. I don't think I can overcome a loss in that game and if I win I don't think it is possible that he beats me.

4. Donovan - 356

6. armchairqb - 244
7. wvjohn - 257

Points Lost
-------------
1. Spence - 93

....and it's down the stretch they come!! and Spence is out front by a head, with Strawman close behind, and the Warrriorsfan a couple of lengths back. There's no chance for Warriorsfan to catch Spence, as they have the same picks and Warriorsfan does not have enough points to catch him. Strawman has a chance if his picks are correct due to games 32-35 are opposite of Spence's. As for Strawman and Warrriorsfan there is hope for Warrriorsfan to take over second place due to the same games that would put Strawman ahead of Spence if he won would put Warrriorsfan ahead of Strawman if he loses.

I think it comes down to who wins Oklahoma - A&M. If Oklahoma wins I think Strawman takes it and if A&M wins I come out on top. Florida, last night, losing hurt me more than most. I would have jumped 10 pts on Strawman and that would have put me over the top or come very close to it. Them losing took me from a 46 pt lead to a 36 pt lead. That is going to make it tough for me if A&M loses.

These next 3 games are crucial . . . I have:

Oregon - Oklahoma - Ole Miss

I need all 3 to win, and then I can finish tied with Spence in the Straight Up Predictions.

Things start shaping up tonight.
If Oregon wins, Spence has me.
If K. State wins, it'll be close.
