Fantasy Picks-Week 3

Postby Eric » Sun Sep 10, 2006 3:56 am

The cupcake season is over with as we get on with the season! The OOC games are heating up and looks like we are in full swing of the college football season.

You can make your picks by using the link. We've got some good ones coming up, including some of my "upset hunches" that I had to stick on there. Seriously, I use ESPN's schedule since it shows the entire slate right there for me on a week-to-week basis, and I pluck good games from there and paste them onto Microsoft Word where I am forced to eliminate games and trim it down to 20. I had to eliminate 10 games like Arkansas/Vanderbilt, Ole Miss/Kentucky, Western Michigan/Virginia, and a couple other potentially good matchups.

Here is how the Top 10 leaderboard stands after two weeks:

1 mountainman 32 8 80% 702 1800
2 ..fanaticjr 34 6 85% 752 1700
3 rolltide 34 6 85% 832 1700
4 openSkies 32 8 80% 738 1600
5 bama_girl 32 7 82.1% 1555 1600
6 Jason G 31 9 77.5% 724 1550
7 MECU 31 9 77.5% 839 1550
8 irish88 30 9 76.9% 743 1500
9 RaliLlama 30 10 75% 834 1500
10 Boomer 30 10 75% 874 1500
11 Husker1 30 10 75% 964 1500

Again, the whole leaderboard is under the Fantasy Picks seciton (as I am sure you guys are all aware).

I got one that was perfect.

VT vs. Tar Heels 35 - 10

and I called LSU's score to the point....45

Watch out!! 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Cool. I don't think I've got any scores right so far. The only one I ever recall "guessing" correctly is the USC/Hawaii game last season.

15-5 is about as good as it gets for me  I don't think the people in front need to be looking in the rear view mirror at me

I understand you have to eliminate some games. I think you do a great job picking the games.

I hope as the conference seasons get going that we have a wide variety of schools from all the 1-A leagues (even the Sun Belt) as well as games featuring teams that are both good and bad. I mean a game between a 3-6 team and a 2-7 can be harder to pick sometimes than a game between two 8-1 teams.

Thanks :D

I try to do that sometimes. Games that include Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Ole Miss are sometimes harder than games that include Clemson, Florida State, Miami, and Boston College.

He looks for games that should be close and hard to pick. That is what makes it hard. Eric usually mixes it up pretty well when conference play starts. Until then, it is kind of hard to pick the tight games. (the ones you would think would be tight, not the ones that turn out that way)

We also have a cool "Stats" feature. The W/L records are skewed because I think this thing was made more for the NFL or a league like that.

http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/board/fsports.php?mode=stats&l=1

It doesn't tell you who picked who, but says how many picks went this way for a team. I find it interesting sometimes.

Eric definitely keeps the 'Picks' on a national scope and covers all the conferences. That's a couple of the things I really like about the way he does it ........ and by the way, those west coast games that finish about 2:00 am will have the preacher banging his Bible on the pulpit just to keep everybody awake during Sunday morning services.

MM, what do you think of the Wake Forest/UConn game? I'm suprised by all the people that picked Wake Forest. I think they have a shot, they're two evenly matched teams, but I think UConn can win 8 games this year.

Don't know what to think quite yet. :?

UConn blew away their first opponent, Rhode Island, and I don't know what that tells me except the Huskies scored a bunch of points and gave up but 7.

Wake, one the other hand is off to a 2 -0 start against Syracuse and Duke. It appears the Deacons struggled in both contests.

On one hand playing two games gives Wake a chance to 'iron out the wrinkles' while UConn has played 1 game, but on the other hand, the Huskies having an off week last week would give them ample time to prepare for the Deacons ...... go figure.

Think I'll take the Huskies, at this point

The Huskies have a chance to get off to a great start. This is one of the reasons I really like them to be bowling:

8-31-06 RHODE ISLAND (Thur.) WON 52-7
9-16-06 WAKE FOREST
9-23-06 at Indiana
9-30-06 NAVY
10-7-06 at South Florida
10-14-06 ARMY

10-20-06 WEST VIRGINIA (Fri.)
10-29-06 at Rutgers (Sun.)
11-11-06 PITTSBURGH
11-18-06 at Syracuse
11-25-06 CINCINNATI

12-2-06 at Louisville

That's how I see their schedule playing out.

I'm right there with you, bama girl. I think people are ditching Tennessee as fast as they were elevated to SEC East champions the week before. Tennessee is still a pretty good football team.

I also have Clemson in an upset after getting upset by Boston College. I think the team was overrated coming into this season, but people are already marking Clemson as a bust just because they went into Boston College and lost by a point.
