Howdy's Pick'em - Week 1

Postby Eric » Fri Jul 29, 2011 10:58 pm

Ok, new picks are up. Apologies for some of the easier ones, but this is a limited week. I plan on continuing not using games prior to Saturday so nobody is left out of their picks. The deadline from now on will always be 11:59 AM on Saturday morning. Most of the time, if there is ever a Sunday game, I won't include it, but due to the amount of Thursday games not giving us a good slate to pick from on Saturday, I included two games over Labor Day weekend.

Deadline: Saturday, September 3rd 11:59 AM

Games:

1. Northwestern at Boston College
2. Miami OH at Missouri
3. Minnesota at USC
4. USF at Notre Dame
5. Western Michigan at Michigan
6. Troy at Clemson
7. UCLA at Houston
8. Arkansas State at Illinois
9. BYU at Ole Miss
10. Fresno State at California
11. Ball State vs. Indiana (in Indianapolis)
12. Army at Northern Illinois
13. ECU vs. South Carolina (in Charlotte)
14. Boise State at Georgia (at Georgia Dome, Atlanta)
15. Oregon vs. LSU (in Dallas)
16. Ohio at New Mexico State
17. Louisiana Tech at Southern Miss
18. Colorado at Hawaii
19. SMU at Texas A&M (Sun.)
20. Miami at Maryland (Mon.)

For those picking the games, to make calculating the results as easy and without errors as possible, to make your picks, highlight the games that Eric has posted.

Then Copy the picks (holding the "Ctrl" key down and hitting the "C" key will do this). Then open your post and Paste the games in your reply (holding the "Ctrl" key down and hitting the "V" key will do this).

Then simply go in an edit the games, only leaving your picks. For instance, in Erics picks, he made a pick of Cal, but in the original games it was California. Excel will not recognize his Cal pick.

I am sure there will have to be some manual checking of the picks, but the fewer discrepancies the more accurate and timely the results will be posted.

I have finished my spreadsheet for calculating the results. Bring on the games.

If everyone had Excel, I could upload a file that would allow you to simply check boxes to make your picks. I will attach an example.

How about if only some of us have Excel....I think Mr. Billybud still uses a Dixon Ticondergoa pencil and yellow pad.

Those having Excel could use the form, and those without just submit the normal way, and I will fill out an Excel entry for them. One foreseeable problem would be someone submitting their picks and I fill out a form, then later, they change their picks. Unless I wait, until the entries close to enter the data, and I really don't want to do that. I guess we could say if you want to change your entry to send me a PM, so that I can change the entry.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

It was Spence's idea, although I wish I had thought of it!
