Ok three hints.

1. The team was not an independent at the time.

2. It did happen within the last 50 years.

3. Including the "Co-" in Co-Champions is important.

Only about four hours left on this one. Anyone else going to take a stab at it?

Georgia Tech 1990??
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

No, you need to look for a year where a conference had lots of co-champs.

The Answer is,

In a bizarre year (1994), Texas A&M was not eligible for the Southwest championship. After running through the conference, with only a tie against SMU (the ponies only non-confernece loss), there were 5 teams ties for second at 4-3. Since A&M was not eligible, but beat all 5 teams, these teams tied for the Southwest title.

A&M had victories over Texas Tech, Texas, TCU, Baylor and Rice. No other team has beaten 5 such teams in a single year.

Ktffan gets 100.00 for having the second question to go the distance.
