Mich helmets

Who likes/dislikes the famous Mich winged helmet? What are some of your other favorites? Ugliest helmet/uniform?

Personally, I like seeing the old-fashioned designs, which seem to be prevalent in the Big Ten, especially.
For a while (under Lou Holtz) they wanted to put a ND on the helmet, but that would be stupid for a lot of reasons.
I prefer the traditional designs, they sort of conjure up memories of history, antoher example I can give is Brigham Young University.
They 'modernized' their uniforms, had one good year then sank like a rock. Now they went back to the 'old' design and are winning games.
Ugliest uniform? Well Wyomings colors are brown & yellow so their colors are worst.
Ugliest design? I think Army's uniforms are pretty unsightly myself, but personally, i don't much care for WV's colors either.

MIchigan isn't the only team with that design, I believe there's another team that utilizes exact same design, can't think of the name, but ti's where Rich Gannon played football. Someone remind me please?

Thanks Derek, I couldn't remember, I also wasn't aware their mascot was a 'hen' so thanks for the info.
Actually I think for the most part, teams are color coordinated.
I dont' particularly like W.Virginia's colors, nor do i overly like Colorado's over-abundance of black (not their school color, silver and gold are).
I think green is a pretty dull color, but it works ok for Marshall.
Most boring uniform? Penn State.
I like UCF's uniform.
Best mascot? Well, Tulane's is maybe most appropriate.
Bulldogs is probably overused, but it's a good mascot.
Colorado's mascot isn't too bad.
I like Penn State's mascot, too.
The wolverine isn't a bad mascot, in general the Big Ten has good selections. I wish every team had a unique mascot, but there aren't too many redundancies.
Tulsa's is a hurricane? Why?

Best Helmets:

1. Michigan
2. Army
3. Navy
4. Deleware
5. Princeton

If you noticed, Delaware's and Princeton's are "winged".

Worst Uniforms:

1. Notre Dame
2. Ohio State (you can't get more bland than that)
3. Oregon's yellow
4. USC
5. Minnesota

Worst Helmets:

1. Darmouth (have you seen those?)
2. Notre Dame (just because I don't like them)
3. Penn State (WAY too origional)
4. Rhode Island
5. Nebraska (the block "N", I don't like it)

Ever heard of the Dust Bowl? I think that is why they are the [b]GOLDEN[/b] Hurricane. I'd have to research it.

michigans helmets have always annoyed me for some reason, they just don't make any sense. oregons big yellow 'O' on that green is wierd too.

Turns out I was way off. Howard Archer who was the new coach at Tulsa in 1922, made a comment about "roaring through opponents" so he wanted to call his team the Golden Tornadoes. But that name was taken earlier by Georgia Tech, so he simply switched it to the Golden Hurricane, nad the nickname was accepted. I thought it had something to do with dust storms, guess not.

thanks for all the responses to my question..I've always been mich fan so I realize I can't be objective about 'our' helmets other than to recognize that they are unique. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the all orange Illinois uniforms in the ugliest uniform catagory.The all time ugliest uniform has to be the all yellow Oregon.

Thank you so much for reminding me. That has gotten no love compared to the all-yellow Oregon uniforms. I would've forgotten about that all-orange for Illinois, that is by far the sickest.

What is your take on the Illini's all-orange unis? Boy are those sick.

Really, Nike is trying to get too cool. I mean, have you seen the Missouri Tigers' and the SMU Mustangs' uniforms? Not to mention the other brand they have that the Arizona Wildcats and the Utah Utes wear. It's really starting to get ridiculous.
