Cincinnati Won the Big East Last Year

Postby Eric » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:43 pm

I assume this is common knowledge, correct? I've always wondered why nobody ever mentions that Cincy is going for back-to-back Big East titles. I wonder if this omission of credit has something to do with the polls and why they're behind TCU? I think their resume definitely looks better than the Horned Frogs' right now and I haven't quite been able to figure this one out. The public at-large still treats Cincinnati like they're the new kids on the block when really their coming out party was 2008.

The reason I bring this up is that aside from the fact nobody mentions they're attempting a repeat, Chris Fowler said on Gameday today that, "Brian Kelly knows a little something about championships. He won a MAC championship." I know the 2009 Orange Bowl was a little lackluster, but seriously folks!

I have heard of any extended credentials!

Bearcats currently getting dominated by Pitt. Cincy had it first and goal at the 2 yard line and threw three straight incomplete passes and settled for a FG.

This is the definition of a struggle for Cincy. Their offense looks uncomfortable and their defense is playing the same way they have been for the last three weeks. This is really the first bad game they've played all year (except maybe against UConn). Of course this is also the game that everybody is happening to watch, so I expect the "Cincy got exposed!" hype to go berserk until the Meineke Car Care Bowl where they'll probably be headed

I knew Pitt would jam them. I said all year that Cincy is too small. WVU waited until late 3rd to start jamming them.

Yeah, and anybody who thinks Pike can make it as an NFL QB is sorely mistaken. He's the king of lame duck passes and doesn't read through his progressions well enough when the main receiver is covered (which is kind of masked by the offense Kelly runs).

If you watch...he reads to 2 pretty well often times. 5 wides is nothing but a distraction most of the time for them. He does like many QBs...reads left to right and throws at the first one that seems open.

I don't think Florida and Cincy would be a good matchup...I hope Cincy goes back to the Orange and plays a less talented GT or Clemson.

I'd like to see Florida demolish TCU.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Chris Fowler wasn't wrong. Kelly did win a MAC championship. I thought it was common knowledge that Brain Kelly was at Central Michigan.

I have to say...I think TCU is the real thing. They may not be #4, but I don't see anybody beating them down. A team that learns how to win and expects to is a hard team to play.

Good Lord, seriously? Are you looking for things to complain about? Never did I say he did NOT win a MAC championship at Central Michigan. I of all people should be aware of that (considering I've been singing Kelly's praises since he arrived at Central). On a show such as College Gameday, where their main focus consists of major college football, if they say that Kelly has won a title, the first thing that SHOULD come to mind is his Big East title last season. This puzzled me because I had rarely heard Cincy referred to as defending Big East champs in the media and was wondering if this is a fact that the mass college football media glossed over (because trust me, they usually are lazy, forgetful, or clueless all at the same time; many of your average college football fans think of Cincinnati as as "non-BCS" team and this is the type of audience they attempt to appeal to).

It'd be like saying "Urban Meyer knows things about winning championships; he won a few at Utah!" His latest and greatest achievements have occurred at Florida, so you would probably reference those.

I predict with tonight's outcomes we're going to see TCU-Georgia Tech and Florida-Cincy while Boise State gets a Big Ten squad, which I hope is Iowa over Penn State.

I hope your wrong in this case. I don't want TCU to win their game.

Tech is less talented than Florida, and a TCU win would only continue this "were just as good as everyone else talk".

Nobody mentions Cincy and the Orange Bowl last year because it was forgettable...Cincy was held to 7 points.
“If short hair and good manners won football games, Army and Navy would play for the national championship every year.”
