North Carolina - v- Appalachian State

Postby Cane from the Bend » Sat Sep 03, 2022 4:34 pm

-------------------------------------------------------------

What a ridiculous game ...

UNC came back from being down 21-7 to take the lead 28-21.

This game looked like it was pretty much a done deal at that point.

But looks can be deceiving.

The 3rd Quarter was all Tar Heels, TD -- FG -- FG

It was 41-21 going into the 4th.

The Mountaineers scored 2 TD's getting within 6.

North Carolina responds with a TD, and score a 2 point conversion, to stretch the lead back to 14.

This is where things went wonky:

App State, with no timeouts left, scored two TD's, the 2cnd with only 0:31 left to go in the game.

Instead of kicking the Extra Point, went for for the lead with a 2 point conversion. Unsuccessful

They go for the Onside Kick.

Rather than downing the ball, the recovering UNC player returns it for a TD <----> but a late hit after the TD by a North Carolina player, means they will Kickoff further back.

App State returns the Kick to UNC's 48. With 19 seconds left.

Two plays later, they get into the End Zone, with 9 seconds left.

They have to go for 2, to tie the game. Unsuccessful

They Onside Kick UNC recovers with 8 seconds left.

The Heels take a knee, winning by 2 points.

Appalachian State scored 6 TD's in the 4th Quarter to keep this game as close as it was.

Just an absurd turn of events.

Didn't see this one, but that sounds horrendous.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
