West Virginia should be better then they were this year. Why would they be in the top 5 disappointments? I think given their team and their schedule next year, they have a good chance to run the table. WVU should start the season in the top 10, so if they run the table they have a very good shot of being in the title game. Next year is set up perfectly for WVU.

I don't really see Syracuse or Oklahoma State having seasons like last year. I think OSU might be good enough to shock everbody and make a bowl run, but I see 4 wins. In regard to the 'Cuse, I see 3 or 4 wins. I don't expect them to be as hideous as last season. One win over Buffalo isn't much to brag about.
Spence, I just think that Louisville, while they might not be the best team in the conference, will win it. They do get West Virginia at home. They'll kind of be under the radar in 06 because of their shortcomings in 2005. I was certainly not on the Cardinal bandwagon last year because of the C-USA talent on defense and the loss of Shelton, Gaines, LeFlors, and Russell. But they'll be getting some firepower on offense back, I really like the looks of Louisville next season. I don't think the Mountaineers will be bad, but they will be considered disappointing for not winning the conference.

i can hardly fathom thinking that far ahead.
i do think florida is going to pull it together, i think auburn will be a disappointment. but, that could be because i hate them.
i don't think usc will be in the picture.

OOOH, Fresno State is a good one to watch out for on the bust list. I think they're going to finish 3rd in the WAC. Boise State is going to win it, Nevada might come in second because I love that pistol offense, Hawaii could be a sleeper out there. They get to get hammered at Boise and at Fresno, but they can beat the Idahos, San Jose States of the WAC no matter where they play them. As a matter of fact, the Warriors played them on the road, and now they get them at home. Another team that I think is due for a breakout, Utah State. I think they'll magically pull of a 2003 Tulsa and be a solid WAC team. I like Brent Guy, I think his defensive mindset will get them around bowl eligibility. The OOC schedule isn't friendly at all, they go @ Wyoming, play Utah at home, @ Oregon, and @ Arkansas. Yikes, they'll have to have one conference loss to make a bowl game. Regardless, they will be competitive and battle Hawaii for the 3rd place spot in the WAC.

Re: Top 5s of 2006
Without making predictions (not really my strong suit) I would prefer to comment on 2005.
Who would have put UCF as a 'favorite' for C-USA 'title' after last year?
How about Fresno State taking USC the 'distance'?
Or Tulsa, winning C-USA? after having been something of a 'doormat' in the WAC?
Or TCU winning the MWC in it's first year?
What about W. Virginia winning the Big East outright? Sure, they've been good for a long time, but given how disappointing they were last year?
What about Akron winning the MAC? I don't think too many would have put their 'reputation' on that happening.
Or for that matter, W. Michigan? But for an upset loss by Miami (OH) to Bowling Green, and a tie-breaker, they play for MAC title.
Then for Akron to beat N.Illinois, the very team that 'finally' exorcised it's demons to Toledo, losing to Akron?
How about Fresno State losing the WAC, after beating Boise St, handily.
And even the Sun-Belt at times was impressive.
It's hard to argue that the WAC 'newcomers' were good at times, and the WAC seemed better, rather than worse.
This suggests in my mind that competition does in fact serve to make teams better. And with surprising results!
That said, it's time the BCS consider ditching it's 'non-competive' structure in favor of one that would allow every team fair opportunity to compete. Ten teams, in single-elimination, would suffice.

hmmmmmmmm, I smell money to be made.....
"IF" the NCAA 'corrects' it's inadequacies regarding "officiating", I have a 'team' which I will 'bet' on.
