..........just how the Associated Press Poll and the Coaches Poll decided to rank Texas A&M No. 4 while ranking Notre Dame No. 5?????

This makes absolutely no sense to me.......

-------------------------------------------------------------

They fooled themselves into believing that the second Clemson meeting said more than Notre Dame losing by less points to Alabama than A&M.

Another reason that polls shouldn't be the way the playoff teams are decided.

and they aren't...a committee ranks as best they can using their criteria....

And they are right mostly.

You want TV ratings...play Notre Dame in the Championship...

Well hell...let's have some social justice and quit having the best teams play...put in Liberty and Coastal Carolina....or the best HBCU against the best program in Delaware, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island...

Or maybe, matching a pretender like OSU against Alabama had folks switching it off...30 point wins are not exciting games to watch.

Sports watching of all types are down this covid year..

NBA Finals were down 49%...NBA Playoffs down 37%

Stanley Cup PLayoffs... down 38%

US Open Final Round....down 56%

Kentucky Derby...down 43%

AND...it's all Alabama's fault.

CFP Championship Game Viewers

2014-15 - 34.62 million
2015-16 - 26.70 million
2016-17 - 26.02 million
2017-18 - 28.44 million
2018-19 - 25.28 million
2019-20 - 25.58 million
2020-21 - 18.65 million

Let’s toss out the first year and call it a ‘novelty year’, and let’s toss out the last year and call it the ‘Covid year’........ examining the 15-16 thru the 19-20 years I believe it would be accurate to say the CFP sure as hell ain’t growing in TV viewership or popularity. 8) 8) 8)

Really fairly steady except for this covid year...

Here is the deal...there were in 2019, 111 regular season games that drew 3.0 million or more....

Twenty times the number of college basketball games that drew 2.0 million....and that is why TV loves college football...

And they love big marquis match ups....Yep...Alabama killing Ohio State by 30 points hurts that rating...

But we always whine....we whined about the AP beauty contest where regional writers voted home teams, we whined about the BCS, we whine about the CFP...

We, though some more than others, love to whine.

There are indeed a bunch of ‘whiners’ in and around College Football....... one could say many Athletic Directors are in that group, they’re whining about how much the attendance at the regular season games has fallen off. 8) 8) 8)

If they want the playoff ratings to go up, then they'll need to put them back onto general broadcasting, rather than paid TV.

The younger generations don't want the subscription when they can find a free stream on the internet.

It isn't as easy as "free streaming"...someone owns the content and gets paid...no matter the method of transmission to your TV.

Content is still king.

I am a huge streamer...I pay for, other than sports, Prime, Netflix, Acorn, Brit Box, and Curiosity....But I also have DTV, Murphy Cable, and Comcast (I can stream from my Florida Comcast here in North Carolina).

If ESPN owns the property rights, ESPN gets paid....whether you access their broadcast by cable, Hulu, Roku, ESPN+, etc.

And, yes, there are some free streaming sites like Pluto, Locast, Xumo...but you will not get ESPN's content...
