Sounds like they want it to move into a professionalized environment and the don’t want to deal with it, they just want their share of the profits.

I know if they go to semi pro or minor league NFL, I will be done with college football. It would ruin it for me.

A step toward protecting their pot of gold. There is a model that could work. The Olympian model has been working for years. It is a lot the same as people are talking about.

Sounds to me...like it was the Knight Commission, not the NCAA, who recommended going semi pro for the brand programs.

The Knight Commission is an independent, reform minded group...

It was, but they were trying to find a way for the NCAA to keeo their interests in the mix with the new rules. I think the leadership under the NCAA has been lacking for a long time and that is the biggest issue. They don't want to find anything going on at schools like Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, and LSU etc. They like to punish players, but they don't want to damage their brands. There is a reason North Carolina didn't get dinged a few years ago. Kansas caught at the top isn't going to get in trouble. The NCAA is such a hypocritical entity, that their only mission is to keep the wheelbarrows coming in.

There actually was a good reason that UNC did not get dinged...the fan puzzles over it...but if you make legal decisions based on rule...UNC could not be dinged.

We all know that UNC pushed athletes towards this course...but, also, half of the course's enrollment were non athletes.

The African American Studies was not properly overseen and the professor did give out grades that were, in many instances, not earned.

The problem for the NCAA was that the African American Studies curriculum was a regular university course of study. Not set up for athletes and was available for the whole student body...thus no "extra benefits".

“While student-athletes likely benefited from the so-called ‘paper courses’ offered by North Carolina, the information available in the record did not establish that the courses were solely created, offered and maintained as an orchestrated effort to benefit student-athletes,” Sankey said.

It became an "academic problem"...and that is reviewed not by the NCAA but by the academic sanctioning body. The N.C.A.A. made the proper decision because the organization is not designed to judge the legitimacy of individual institutions’ academic programs.

It offends our sense of justice..but you must go by the rule.

So as long as the university allows it's staff and the rest of the student body to be dishonest and lacking in integrity then it is Ok? The NCAA has dinged student athletes for less than what UNC did.

And I know you are just interpreting the rule and not judging the ruling.

There were those who had the foresight and saw what was coming and where it was heading... but their words fell on deaf ears. Seems gobs of money can impact both the ears and the brain.....
