It certainly did end up hurting ...

All three teams lost; and that Army game was so close. I was pullin' for the Knights there at the end. Getting to goal before Air Force made that stop.

Had Army's QB not gone out injured there, they would have scored the Touchdown and won. The Falcons just couldn't contain him.

_______________________________________________

Last week ... ... ...

Billybud & Highfly had very successful showings.

Billybud you slipped backwards for a couple of weeks; then had 2 consecutive weeks where your conference charged forward, taking the lead away from Mountainman.

Highfly; that was something else. You looked as if you were going down in flames, when Suddenly, you surged back into the upper tier. Even with Missouri losing, your conference brought in 7 points by having the 1.5 victory of Minnesota over Penn St. That win negated the half point reduction you would have seen from the Tigers loss.

----------------------------------------------------------------

This week ... ...

Billybud; from takeover to skating backwards, your conference had one of those what could've been weeks. Auburn had their chance @ home vs #4 Georgia, but just couldn't quite get it done. If only Mississippi St weren't as bad as they are ~ they had a shot @ home vs #5 Bama. Then UCF, Virginia and FIU were all out on a bye, while FSU played a FCS opponent for only a half point.

Mountainman; you went from gaining just a half point last week, to jumping back into 1rst place grabbing 7 points. Although Nebraska lost, Iowa's win over #8 Minnesota off set the penalty, due to the half point bonus.

Dossenator; What a week! Not only did you receive the half point bonus for Oklahoma's victory against #13 Baylor ... every single team in your conference played, and every single one of them won. That's an 8.5 week. I don't think that has ever happened before. You went from closing in on 2cnd place behind Mountainman, to leaping into 2cnd place following Mountainman as you both pass by Billybud --- You asked previously, "So you’re saying there’s a chance!" Today I would say, you're pressing for the lead right now. You have 46 points, which is just 1 behind 1rst place.

Highfly; similar to Billybud, you went from a quick rise to a near stall. You managed a half of a point for this week. I might have slid you back under the divider, but I think with a decent week, you'll be over the 40 point mark. We've seen falls by others, so there is no reason to think you couldn't at least contend for a potential higher position, here in these last couple of weeks.

Me; yep, I scored a few. My conference did average accumulating 3.5 for the week. I'm up to 34, which is far better than what things looked like they were going when this competition started. I don't think that deserves an above the margin total. I may be able to vie for 4th place if things go well enough. But unless things get really crazy, I'm purely out of contention for the top 3.

Derek; you moved up a position. You had a rather solid week, actually. Your conference gained 7 points, going from 22 to 29. If your conference & mine score the same points over the last two regular season weeks, as they earned this week, you'd jump in front of me by 2. And if Arizona St, TCU & Northwestern all do what is perceived as impossible, you'll gain point vs other conferences, and earn 3 bonus scores.

Donovan; his conference fell back to last place, just behind Derek by 1 point. As he would tell us, "At least I'm in good company". Now, which would likely amuse him, his teams that will face others' conference selections, have the chance to trim down some of our scoring, looking ahead. Most notably Ohio State, who will no doubt pull down someone's points.

Looks like Mountainman has a chance to pull away...

He can have two winners with Boise and Memphis...

Billy will split a win-loss when Clemson/Virginia play

Derek will split a win-loss with LSU/Georgia

I could use something positive after the season the Mountaineers had...... :|

We’ll see.....

Yeah, tell me about it ...

I'm sure Billy has some sense of what you're talking about, too.

And I lost a full point on Cincinnati, because they dropped the game to Memphis two weeks in a row.

Mountainman picked up his two W's with Memphis and Boise....

I picked up W's on FAU and Clemson (lost on Virginia)

Derek picked up W on LSU and loss on Georgia...

It will be close...

__________________________________________

I thought it might be interesting to gauge the success of our predicting the season from the beginning, against the 20 teams featured therein the Conference Championship games.

Pca-12 Championship
Winner - Oregon [11-2] - Dossenator
Loser - Utah [11-2] - Dossenator

Big XII Championship
Winner - Oklahoma [12-1] - Dossenator
Loser - Baylor [11-2] - Unselected

Sun Belt Championship
Winner - Appalachian State [12-1] - Cane
Loser - Louisiana-Lafayette [10-3] - Unselected

MAC Championship
Winner - Miami (OH) [8-5] - Unselected
Loser - Central Michigan [8-5] - Unselected

CUSA Championship
Winner - FAU [10-3] - Billybud
Loser - UAB [9-4] - Unselected

AAC Championship
Winner - Memphis [12-1] - Mountainman
Loser - Cincinnati [10-3] - Cane

SEC Championship
Winner - LSU [13-0] - Derek
Loser - Georgia [11-2] - Derek

Mountain West Championship
Winner - Boise State [12-1] - Mountainman
Loser - Hawai'i [9-5] - Unselected

ACC Championship
Winner - Clemson [13-0] - Billybud
Loser - Virginia [9-4] - Billybud

Big 10 Championship
Winner - Ohio State [13-0] - Donovan
Loser - Wisconsin [10-3] - Highfly

Every participant had at least one team in a Conference title game.
Derek, Mountainman and myself all had two teams appearing.
Doss and Billybud both had three teams in Championship games.

Six teams that made it to their Conference Championships went unselected:
Baylor
Louisiana
Miami (OH)
Central Michigan
UAB
Hawai`i

__________________________________________

Overall I'd say we did pretty good ...

It's hard to get a true feel for what to expect before the season begins. Sure, there are always the obvious contenders. Yet, other teams we have seen do well, and seem to be on an upward trajectory, turn right around to crash & burn. While others, who are assumed to be in the rebuilding process, look to be likely another year or two away from doing anything special, sneak up and announce themselves.

__________________________________________

As for the Competition ...

We've got a dead heat for first place going into the Bowl Season.
Billybud & Mountainman are tied @ 55.5 each
Dossenator is right there, with 53.5 points

Those bonus half point distributions have kept things tight.

Well, with Alabama playing Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, and both being in the top 15; Mountainman is going to receive 1 point for that game.
