So...The Pac 12 Commissioner now says that he wants 9:00 AM kick offs....

He knows that the noon EST time catches viewers.

From what I have read, the schools will not be selected without their own approval. So, participation in an early kickoff time would be voluntary.

I wonder how many takers they'll get. I could see this going two ways.

Either the larger tradition names will gobble up those times, putting more separation between themselves and the schools playing catch up.

Or, the teams who are not particularly influential will fill those availabilities, causing a ratings drop, essentially spiking upward the viewership of other games on rival networks [basically making this a flop].

For example, if you give the typical east coaster the choice of watching Colorado vs Arizona, or Pitt vs Duke, I would assume the eastern teams hold the longer viewing share of that time block [these games are both schedule for October 5th].

According to Larry Scott, we could see this happen as soon as this coming season.

I can't imagine that west coast fans are for a 9 am kickoff....

Start travel at o'dark thirty to set up breakfast tailgate by 6:30 am....And if you are coming from a couple hundred miles away, start out about 1-2 am.

only LSU fans could contemplate traditional pre game drinking before 8 am....and, for them, it would just be the continuation of an all night tailgate.

They would stumble in reeking of alcohol and breakfast corndogs...but supremely cheerful.

UCLA and California said they would be Guinea Pigs. This is a follow the money move par excellence.

When Boise started the Thursday night game playing is was for exposure and money. Now everyone wants that exposure. But they have had some 9:00 PM start times....

Mr. BB is right, I don't want 9:00 start and I am not going to leave the house. What it means I will watch a West Coast team instead of an East Coast team. This will have all kinds of ripple issue

When I see things such as this, I envision farmers plowing and tilling their fields, and my thoughts are that either the seeds of conference realignment or expansion are being readied to be sown......... bottom line IMHO is first, the PAC-12 is not preforming on a National Level and therefore no National audiences, and second, there’s just not that many people in the conference’s footprint who want to watch the conference teams on TV. 8)

I just can't get into football at 9:00 am. I don't care if it was Ohio State vs Alabama, I wouldn't be watching.

I rarely watch an 11:00 am kickoff....but that's just me.

The problem for me, is my incessant need to watch them all. I've stayed up through the 4 am games that ran over do to weather delay, even when the first kickoff was around 11:30ish ...

But, staying up to watch the Friday night games, then being fresh & ready to start the day with 9 am kickoffs. Even for the most diehard fans that is taxing.

Now, I realize those games will be 12 noon for me, so I won't have to take issue with it. However, I just don't believe the Pacific Coast cares that much.

The crazy thing is, the first game or two may see successful attendance, merely from the newness of it all. People will want to be the ones to say, "I was there" ... but, give it a season, the numbers will dwindle down considerably, with people saying, "Yeah, it was neat to do once."

And now, Larry Scott announces the Pac-12 Championship games in 2020 & 2021 will take place in the new Stadium being built for the Oakland Raiders, in Las Vegas.

No one wants to go to a game in the morning and go home and feel obligated to cut the grass in the afternoon. Afternoon athletics is how it should always be. Lit stadiums are part of the Great Conspiracy movement.

And as long as I on the subject...if it is longer than a one hour Yellow Bus ride for the players...then it's too far away. (I absolutely remember the buses being followed by a caravan of fans to the away games. And when Pacific University Boxers would play the Linfield Wildcats, the Wildcat boosters would have a pot luck dinner and fed the opposing team fans for a fundraiser.)

I had to look up Linfield College...2,700 miles from here.

I try to catch a game every now and then at Western Carolina in Cullowee, NC....We overnighted in Chattanooga a couple of years back to watch the Mocs play...

I like the small college teams...

If I were a fan of a West Coast team and my teams conference wanted to institute 9:00am Kickoffs I would pull my money. Noon kickoffs are fine. I like those games in the late fall. 3:30 games are good most of the season, I don't mind 8:00PM games in late summer and early fall. If I were the PAC 10 commissioner, I would take my ball and go home. Letting television dictate the season is where these conferences have gone wrong. TV has influenced that there would be a playoff, that it would sensationalize the process, and basically what teams are worthy. As long as the leagues let this happen they will be beholden to the networks.

Tennessee Ernie Ford had a song about Coal Miners....... there’s a lyric in there about selling you soul. Same could be said about University Presidents selling the soul of College Football....... :(

We have in the past talked about this type of nonsense. College football is far more than what you see on TV. All that disappears with a nine o'clock kickoff no matter if it is AM or PM.

Nost so fast...we might want to rethink our stupid decisions.
