In the ACC, FSU has played BYU, Colorado , USC, UAB, Western Michigan, Troy, Rice, Oklahoma, LA Monroe, Nevada, Idaho, USF, etc etc

And volunteered to play neutral site games as season openers against Alabama (2X), Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Iowa State, BYU, Kansas, and Southern Miss...

.

And because of Florida State's name, along with the money that TV revenue will draw, they have those teams in agreement to sign on to play.

Big, deal.

Miami played at Appalachian State in 2016, in a trade off game where App State will head to Miami on Sept. 11, 2021.

That's a home & home scheduled six seasons apart.

But scheduling other Power5 schools in those seasons would be difficult, do to in-conference obligations, and availability [and willingness] to be schedule by Power5 conference teams.

My question about UCF/florida would be, if you are willing to schedule three games against UCF, with a Neutral Field site as one of those 3 games ... why then is the game in Orlando the third in the series..? Why not offer a Gainesville-Orlando-Gainesville series, rather than a Gainesville-Gainesville-Orlando series.?.

It's almost as if Scott Stricklin proposed an option he didn't think Danny White would take.

For florida, they are an improving program, and have shown they can be competitive again. UCF is presently a team with a lot of media interest. The TV revenue, in the most immediate sense, would certainly be there in a Home&Home series.

Obviously for Florida, it is about gate money. But in long terms, the Schedule Strength and game exposure would benefit the gators near end of season, when comparing schedules with conference opponents --- especially in they continue doing well during the seasons they play them in.

Florida State did it the right way to be sure and they built a dynasty because of it. But something they had that the UCF's of the world do not have is they had the power of a power 5 conference behind them. Schools get more credit for beating a non blue blood program (which FSU was then) from a major conference. They play a group of five program and lose, they have more to lose. So why play them? Play the second best team in the conference and win or better yet play a mid tier program from a power five conference and really get credit for doing very little.

Or get Nick Saban kind of clout and you can play 1AA schools, teams with bad records, or whatever and it doesn't matter. That is the Notre Dame model and it works wonderfully. Then a good team can stay healthy all year a get ready for the playoffs.

What FSU had...was not the ACC.

It was playing two of the top five winningest teams of the 90's (besides FSU) every year...out of conference...UF and Miami.

They also played another of the top five winningest teams of the 90's...Nebraska...three times.

FSU...as an independent, and before blue blood dynasty days...played Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ohio State, VT, Baylor, South Carolina, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State and the like...

Sure they also played Memphis, Houston, etc...but scheduled the big boys to augment Miami and Florida.

..........agreed, the regular season absolutely must be addressed, and especially if the notion of Conference Champs receiving an auto-bid is to be used in this 8 team bracket being considered.

Hell, the biggest issue driving this whole CFP Committee debate is the selection and seeding process, so surely these decision makers will not make the same mistake twice. (remember when I said these guys didn’t know which end of a cow to milk?)

....... and if you think this bunch can rank teams, then ask yourself how many times their #1 seed in this current 4 team playoff has won the title.

Not bad seeding...the #1 or #2 seeds have won all but the first CFP (75% so far)

In the 4 CFP,s the #1 seeds have never won the Playoff Title, the #2 seeds have won the title twice, the #3 seeds have never won the title, and the #4 seeds have won the title twice.

Point being, not only are the teams selected a crapshoot, so are the seedings...... so, why not decide the Playoff Participants AND the Champion on the field??? (that’s a rhetorical question)

Time constraints prohibit any kind of real playoff. With that said, go back to where it was in 1981.

You don't always need a national champion. Do the women on Mars and Jupiter wonder why they never win the Miss Universe contest?
"No, no!" said the Queen. "Sentence first–verdict afterward."
"Stuff and nonsense!" said Alice "The idea of having the sentence first!"
"Hold your tongue!" said the Queen, turning purple.
"I won't!" said Alice.
"Off with her head!" the Queen shouted at the top of her voice."

At the level of two best college teams in the country, there is a negligible difference between #1 and #2....

The fact that they have been wiping out #3 and #4 at a 75% rate seems to show a divide between 1-2 and 3-4.

If either Alabama or Clemson wins this year (#1 or #2 for the 4th time out 5 playoffs)...it will just reinforce that it is really about the top two...and the other two are just there for the show.

And let's juast add more for the3 show....

Or that every time the playoff committee has missed badly on 3 and 4.
