Who is to say that an 8-4 conference winner couldn’t run through a tournament? I think with no way to determine the best, just go with the conference champs. Don’t worry about playing a national schedule. Go to regional games and conference games, the. Test your luck against the nation at the end to see if you can hang.

These guys still either don’t have the problem identified or are choosing to ignore it and are simply tossing a bone to the barking dogs....... just sending up trial balloons to see which one will fly and will calm the beast.

They are trying to control the growing of the masses while still protecting that golden goose.

Exactly. If you simplify all of this there are two areas of evaluation, finance, and the game. Apparently, finance is working and for now, has won. The game and its objective are now irrelevant. Sports will go back to being "extra-curricular" when the financial aspect no longer works. Disney will make that decision for all of us.

Jeez...nutcase conspiracy is the pablum of the masses.

....we actually can watch more small program sports than we ever could before...we can now stream. If you want to watch Maryville State tip it off against North Dakota, just dial in ESPN 3 at 8:00 pm.

...there is no giant ESPN/industrial-military/starchamber...or other grand wizard that controls football from behind a green curtain...it has always been a human fantasy that other god's control our lives...that events are shaped by one wizard or another operating behind the curtain or in the clouds. It is always much easier to blame the "gods".

...but we control TV viewing...because we vote with our eyeballs.

...If the average public would rather watch Alabama-Auburn or Ohio State-Penn State rather than Tulane-ECU, there is nothing wrong with that.

...If programs that have existed 100 years, invested $100's of millions of dollars in athletics and ardously built fan bases and donor bases, are more watched than Old Dominion, it is not surprising. Multitudes have access to CSPAN...but that doesn't mean that we really want to watch it.

But for the conspiracy centered folks...I do have advice that will make you feel better. Always wear a hoodie when going out, never raise your head in case the satellite is overhead....

No said the financial part is not successful. We all vote with our dollars. Doesn't make it right. We do get to choose and I am grateful for that.

Marginalizing by conspiracy labeling...Now there is a conspiracy.

There isn’t anything wrong with choosing who you want to watch. But if you are trying to set up a national championship tournament then all the teams should have a clear path to the tournament. Past that, then it is up to the individual teams. Some teams would have a tougher path to the top, but that would still be a clear path. Florida State used to schedule brutal non conference schedules to get an opportunity to be voted champ. Other teams did too. Now, with Alabama as the model it is a race to the bottom as far as ooc schedule is concerned. That leaves the good group of 5 teams limited opportunities to get a tougher schedule. Who wants to play them? Auburn probably doesn’t.

Spence...FBS football is not basketball...the regular season is important, unlike basketball...just make a 65 team cut, baby.

The regular season is only 12 games for most teams...and thus the regular season is also the playoff. You have 12, sometimes 13, games to show that you are one of the best teams in the country...the cream. Every weekend is part of the playoff.

When Alabama plays LSU or Georgia, or Ohio State plays Michigan or Penn State or Oklahoma plays WVU...those games impact the national championship.

Notre Dame made it in to the CFP at 12-0...UCF did not at 12-0...but UCF had the opportunity...if they had an SOS that wasn't 90.

UCF did not play a top 30 team...period.

A good dozen teams would be favored to beat them in a match...and not just Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, LSU (we'll get to see that match), Texas A&M, etc.

UCF beat their schedule and were rewarded for that with a New Year's Day bowl...but UCF didn't beat a good team all year and thus did not earn a berth in the CFP.

IMHO, Spence and billybud are getting right to the heart of HALF of the dilemma when addressing the ‘regular season’ as a ‘qualifier’ for ‘selection’...... cupcakes and eyeballs as measures gotta’ go. Hell, Mickey Gilley has already warned us about the perils of the ‘eyeball test’.

That's a name I have not heard in a LONG time. Was a good movie too. The 70s were fond memories of childhood.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
