Bowling Green Fires Head Coach......

Postby Mountainman » Sun Oct 14, 2018 10:19 pm

........ Mike Jinks after 2 and one-half seasons. The defensive coordinator will take over Jinks’ duties for the remainder of the season.

That's tough ...

This is not a place where someone can stay at the top of the league for very long. Northern Illinois did it for a while, and had a rotating door for head coaches because of it. Now, they can't even maintain the success level they once enjoyed.

Bowling Green is a program that is not in the most attractive venues of the land. It'll be difficult for the administration to find a diamond in the rough coach who will turn them around.

But I get it ~

In 2013 they went 10-4 [winning the MAC title game vs NIU]
In 2014 they went 8-6 [losing the MAC title game to NIU]
In 2015 they went 10-4 [winning the MAC title game vs NIU]

Since then, they have followed up finishing ~

In 2016 they went 4-8
In 2017 they went 2-10

And the trend isn't getting any better.

I hope they can find some sort of hope. Right now, though, they are in the downward transition.

Yes, but BG is kind or spoiled with having coaches that overachieved and they expect it.

Yes, and those 3 years from 2013-2015, unlike our favored schools, Bowling Green doesn't have as many leaving early, which makes it harder, because three seasons of success generally means three seasons with the same skilled players.

Following that up is hard to do at these smaller programs, as the talent pool gets thinner, all while the in conference competition has the time to catch up.

Once the great ones are gone, the pretty good ones aren't usually enough to keep pace.
