Tulane -v- Memphis

What the.?!

This isn't supposed to happen. Yet again, a case for why we do not award victories because of what we assume will happen.

Memphis is 3-1 this season [until this game is over]. Their sole loss is to the Navy by 1 point.

Tulane is 1-3 [until the end of this game]. They have just looked terrible this year.

Tulane is mud stomping Memphis right now. It is at the midway of the 4th quarter. Tulane is ahead 40-14.

Memphis cannot block on the O-Line tonight. Tulane has owned Memphis front. They even got 3 sacks in a row. i do not know if they are just playing inspired, or if this was a massively well prepared game plan.

I'm perplexed ... But entertained.

Remember all of those games when the winning team does something Stupid which gives the other guys something to work with ..?

Well, Tulane is getting the idea right about now.

They had the quarterback grappled for a one yard gain on the sideline, drug him out of bounds, then tossed him to the ground, getting a 15 yard unsportsman like. Memphis immediately went down field the rest of the way in two plays, and scored a Touchdown.

Memphis attempts the onside kick, however, Tulane covered, and is now draining the clock.

Memphis timeout, has one left. 5:25 left in the game.

Tulane leads, 40-21

Well, Tulane went for it on 4th down, but did not get it --- Memphis was still having trouble blocking up front. A 15 yard hands to the face against Tulane's defense bails Memphis out of another sack ... until the very next play, where Tulane got to the quarterback again. A pass interference penalty gives Memphis 15. Then the QB is sacked once more. A nice pass gains about 12 yards, but then the drives stalls, Memphis attempts a 41 yard field goal ... Success.

Memphis goes for another onside kick --- Tulane covers it.

Tulane runs the clock out, as Memphis has no Timeouts left.

Tulane wins, 40-24

Tulane's defense had more sacks in this one game than they did in all 4 of their previous games combined.

This was Tulane's first win over Memphis in 18 years.

Nice showing for the Green Wave.
