Oddities...

Postby billybud » Thu Aug 23, 2018 5:27 pm

Clemson will open with Furman....the Furman QB may be a Clemson student who is allowed to go to school at Clemson and play at Furman.

"Furman quarterback Harris Roberts is enrolled in a cooperative educational exchange program that allows him to play for one school and study at another. Furman, a private liberal arts school in Greenville, S.C., only has a pre-engineering program. Roberts earned his degree in the program in three years and is working on earning his second bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Clemson, according to the Greenville News."

.
Sooo...a case of a P5 program lending an athlete to a G5 team?

Of course, you mean an FCS team, not group of 5 in Furman, right..?

This is your idea of nobility? The guy goes to a reasonably good school, on scholarship, attends another school where apparently his discipline is better taught and plays for a school he does not attend albeit enrolled. This is right out of the Little League book where kids are juggled like the truth in college football.

I might note, having cooperative education agreements between schools is nothing new, been around for a long time. But like in all good things, evil lurks.

I am rooting for Clemson because I have ulterior motives that I shall not reveal at this time.

Indeed; remind the kid of how he is not good enough to play for his own school, but is good enough to be scheduled as a predetermined loss.

I'm curious, however ... is he still officially associated academically with Furman in order to stay eligible on the team? Is his BA program somehow an extension of transferable accreditation in association with Clemson?

There are people here in South Bend that have gone on from Saint Mary's to Notre Dame, or IUSB (mine & my wife's Alma Mater) for BA / BS programs. And for some time, there was a dedicated building on the IUSB campus that was IU/Purdue South Bend. Which was actually rather perplexing, because they did not have enough classes to offer full degree programs on their own. So they had a cross University program, where their students would take the rest of the required credits from the the IUSB schedule, even though those students were told specifically in orientation, that they were not IU students. They were Purdue students fulfilling their credit hours in IUSB classes.

Anyhow, nice to see this guy getting to finish his football eligibility while continuing the pursuit of his education off location.

He is a Clemson student who will receive a Clemson BA and is not really "off location".....He is through with Furman..That BA will complement his BA already received from Furman...it actually is mislabeled in the story as "cooperative education".

It is part of Clemson's Transfer Education & Dual Education Program. His course work, some or all, transfer to Clemson

The College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS) enrolls over 350 transfer students each year. These students come from two and four-year institutions across the state of South Carolina and across the country. If you plan to transfer into CECAS from your institution, you are highly encouraged to contact the Clemson University Admissions Office at 864-656-2287. The Transfer Course Equivalency List (TCEL) can aid you in determining which classes will transfer to Clemson.

Students participating in these programs must work closely with their institution and Clemson University to make sure that the transfer is as seamless as possible and that as many classes as possible transfer for credit. It is important to note that, though there is usually at least two academic years of work left to do after transfer, the sequence of pre-requisites in engineering majors is such that it will usually take six terms of enrollment (possibly including summers) after transfer to complete an engineering degree unless the student has taken key freshman and sophomore engineering courses (e.g., by attending summer school at Clemson or another engineering college) prior to transfer.

Huh?

The kid is just fighting to play starting QB at Furman (not yet decided)....He is obviously a smart kid...but probably unable to compete at Clemson with experienced Kelly Bryant (12-2 as starter) nor five star backup Trevor Lawrence who broke all of Deshaun Watson's high school records in Georgia and was ranked the #1 QB recruit by Rivals (and is seven inches taller).

He knows that with only two years left in school, Furman is his best bet, maybe only bet, to play.

Putting aside the snark about not being good enough, etc, sure Furman is a predetermined loss playing a top five team. You can play PC...but it is what it is....

In college football, teams favored by 19.5 points have won 98.4% of the time...Clemson would be favored by more....if that isn't an "ink in the win"...
