For the Big 10...having their CCG in Indianapolis makes fan sense...it is centrally located not that far from the usual suspects...Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin who will have accounted for 13 of the last 14 appearances in the game.

True, but also the Big 10 doesn’t have any issues with fan traveling. Most of the bowl teams travel over 700 miles every bowl season to see their teams. They have always traveled well so playing at a neutral site isn’t an issue. Especially when it is less than 400 miles for most of the schools.

Yes ... and the two schools which are among the lowest to travel greater distances for a post season game in the Big 10 [Indiana & Purdue], really wouldn't have to travel very far, seeing as they are both nearly neighbors to Indianapolis [in the unlikely event one of these teams should ever somehow make it into the Conference Championship game].

Bowl traveling is not a problem...it is having a long slog to go see a CCG....and then a bowl.

Many fans must choose which trip to take...and choose to go to the bowl rather than the CCG.

If those Big Ten fans had a CCG with travel distances similar to those of a bowl game...you might see a dip in CCG attendance.

In the Orange Bowl...Big Ten guys bring average attendance...less than matches with Virginia Tech-Cincinnati, or Louisville-Wake Forest, or Southern Cal-Oklahoma, etc did in the Orange.

In fact..as many folks attended the FSU-NIU Orange Bowl (not an attractive match up) as the Clemson-Ohio State playoff Orange Bowl.

Boise lost the last game of the season...and thus it falls to the computer composite set forth in the conference rules...and Fresno ranks higher in those...as well as the AP.

An now we have our answer.

With the latest College Football Poll having been released:
Fresno State is ranked #25 --- Boise State fell out of the rankings.

So, maybe changing the dynamic to something other than the Playoff Poll should be considered, if waiting for the final poll release, seeing as how the poll will not be announced until 4 days prior to the Mountain West Championship game.

There really is only a couple of hundred miles difference between the big 10's farthest travel Rutgers=Nebraska and the ACC's Boston College-Miami. A point in between somewhere in the Carolina's wouldn't be bad. The mid point difference would be about an eleven hour drive compared to eight and a half mid point in the Big Ten. Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, and Penn State have the longest trips. In the ACC BC, Syracuse, FSU, and Miami have the longest trips. The rest are less than 5-6 hrs. Not bad for a conference game or conference championship game. You can drive in and see the game, spend the night and drive back. The game is always on the weekend so most don't have to miss work. That is not prohibitive. Bowl games are more like vacations. Except playoff games. Then you have to travel a couple times, usually by plane, and spend 2 or 3 days each way. That can be expensive not even counting tickets.

East Coast Travel can not be compared to West Coast Travel. Nothing is close in the West.

Being close is relative....

I could probably drive from Tallahassee to Clemson in a little more time then it takes to drive across town from UCLA to USC in the rush hour.

The day that Rutgers and Nebraska meet in a CCG, is the day that the earth flips on its axis....like I posted, Indianapolis is really centered for the usual suspects in this game.

I don't worry about Boston College and Syracuse meeting in my lifetime either.

It still has to be a consideration when setting a neutral site. Penn State and Nebraska would be a real possibility and they are 16 hours apart. The Big ten championship game would be a 9 1/2 hour drive for Nebraska. They would make the trip.

regardless...so far, the shortish travel distances for the actual participants that have been in the Big Ten CCG...13 of the 14 participants so far...

Wisconsin....329 miles

Ohio State....176 miles

Lansing.....250 miles

and one timer...Penn State...640 miles

Sooo...for most of the fans that have attended a Big Ten CCG (13 of the 14 attending fan bases), so far, it has been a mornings drive of 3 to 5 hours.

Tallahassee is about as far from Greensboro NC as Happy Valley is from Indianapolis....Of actual participants, Miami is at 791 miles...Boston College is 753 miles...Tallahassee at 608 miles, Clemson and VT are closest at 321 miles and 151 miles...

I understand that, but setting a venue still has to take in account the whole conference. Per Donovan's map the Huskies are an out lying team. Wouldn't have been a consideration to your point five - years ago. Things change.
