Scheduling

Postby donovan » Thu Apr 27, 2017 3:59 pm

First let me be clear. Schools can do whatever they want...should be up to them.

With that said, we will soon start football season and SOS will be touted and praised, placed on the alter of sacrosanctity and those that do not genuflect will be scourged and scorned and banned from UC Berkeley if they speak out.

But here is what happens

http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ohio-state-adds-home-and-home-with-washington-adjusts-tcu-series/

So the schools that get bumped will be maligned in the SOS world when in fact they had nothing to do with it.

Time for the pride, the puffed-upped, vain and haughty to get the integrity to cut ties with the rest of us and form their own self aggrandizing conference.

The the rest of us can be who we are, insignificant piss ants in a colony of termites.

And with ESPN's troubles...it may well all crumble. The Rubicon may have well been crossed. I hope so.

I just love these old timey bible thumping sermons.

So very 1950's southern. Right out of the sweltering heat of the white tents pitched in the weedy roadside lots for a week before hitting the next town on the circuit. The preacher, in his sweat soaked white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, with fiery red face and a whiskey hoarse voice, railing against the evils of television and women working outside the home and having two cars.

"Boom. boom...Put a nickel in the drum and you'll be saved."

"The proud, puffed up, vain and haughty will not see heaven for Mark 10:25 and Matthew 19:24 tell us it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

I say to you, that that the fans of Alabama and Clemson will stand in heaven's queue while our brothers at UAB and Samford will be whisked through those pearled gates. For Jesus said "the last shall be first and the first last".

The end is coming...and I am glad for it.

"My dear brethren. We know of the false prophets from the west. Close your ears to the socialist siren songs of these secular humanists. They do not acknowledge God's chosen people and are the voice of the Chaldeans and the Amorites.

As it is written in Numbers, "Now those who camp on the east side toward the sunrise shall be of the standard of the camp of Judah, by their armies, and the leaders of the sons of Judah.."

Boom, boom, boom...put a nickel in the drum and you'll be saved".

I too am glad to see ESPN getting a dose of humble pie. I just hope they don't run more soccer games in some vain attempt at staying "relevant".
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

And beware of wolves dressed in Garnet and Gold who preach salvation for a nickel when secretly champion neo-pharisaic Easterly Supplication for Pecuniary Nihilism.

Now the good Brother Billybud will pass the plate and remember not the jingle jangle of pocket change, but the rumble crumbles of Mr. Franklin. (He also takes VISA, MC...)

I think that ESPN will be OK. They are ahead of most in the national transition to viewing TV by alternate transmission sources....they own the content, no matter how accessed.

Many don't realize that ESPN is getting it's full cable price from HULU, Roku, etc.

ESPN is not losing money...it is not making as much do to the viewing habits of changing generations. But, the mothership will adjust and survive. They already have captured a interest in BAM Tech for an over the top service (like HBO) and have an option to buy the majority interest.

Bloomburg reports:

"With almost 90 million homes still getting ESPN, that adds up to $7.8 billion per year. Sister channel ESPN2 chips in an additional billion, and that’s all before ad revenue (roughly $2.6 billion a year, according to Kagan) and revenue from the print magazine and website, which is the most trafficked in sports. Last year, Disney’s cable networks brought in $16.6 billion in revenue and $6.7 billion in operating profit—43 percent of Disney’s total and more than its theme parks and movie studios combined."

As long as people desire to see live sports...there will be folks willing to pay for that content. The transmission of content has evolved and will continue to evolve...and ESPN knows the darwinian principle...adapt or die out.

LOL...I like the computer art

Our obvious talents (LOL) seem wasted on this site....In fact, I sometimes find myself humming the Dies Irae while opening these pages.

And that is too bad..I know nothing is permanent, but at my age, I was hoping that I would outlive the board.

If it does peter out:

I'll miss Donovan's west coast rants and endless tilting against the windmill.
Spence's calm "everyman" demeanor...I picture him as a Jimmy Stewart type.
Eric's new found Michigan hope laced with fatalism about the Ohio State game.
Cane's humor and useful insight
Derek's southern perspective (I recently traveled through Dublin, Ga when I turned the wrong way coming from Milledgeville to Macon).

This is a small board, and, as such, I think of the posters as friends that I sit down and chat with over coffee in the morning. That is unique, as far as football boards gp.
